Thanks Laurie this is really helpful for me as I've got a few of the old DoD pedals in my collection and I've never really paid them much attention - this will encourage me to dig them out again!

Cheers

Thanks Laurie, great link.
I once listed all Dod pedals I could find by searching the Internet. Can't remember if I found them all but this site would have made the job a lot easier.

Spot on zerksies

They are ok for some good old low-fi messin' - with the right settings the FX 22 Vibrothang is a lot of fun.

The only DoD pedal that I've ever used in my live rig was an old FX 84 'Milkbox' compressor - not bad as a volume booster either as I remember!

Not all DOD pedals are crap...the Classic Fuzz is a great fuzz pedal.

And that guy from Radiohead made the 440 Envelope Filter highly sought after

DOD still gets a bad rap by some, but they actually put out some great pedals- they used to be pretty cheap on ebay but prices seem to be slowly rising. Some of the modulation and delays are really nice sounding. I have an old FX65 chorus which I cracked open and found the same BBD chip as my MIJ CE-2, no wonder it sounds so nice! Thanks for the link Laurie, very cool

+1....had this chorus pedal myself back in the day..great sound..in fact i had a whole Dod pedalboard but as i wrote before i found the noise levels from these old Dod effects to be bad....i tried out my Dod harmonic enhancer(sort of a treble booster)a few weeks back..i was looking for a clean booster for my acoustic guitar and the amount of tone loss even with the effect turned off was very noticeable...i used it with a brand new battery as the Dod power inputs are a pain in the a**e and require 10 volts unlike the boss stuff.....

thanks for the link, Laurie... FWIW DiscoFreq's site has a few more DOD manuals that aren't on that list, like the FX30B Gate/Loop, which can be a useful pedal but not intuitive at all.

overall, I like DOD pedals (a little too much? see below...). some of DOD's pedals weren't very good, and the build quality was never as good as Boss, but as several have noted, the DOD FX60 Chorus and FX90 Delay pedals are comparable/much more affordable than the Boss CE-2 and DM-2. and DOD offered a plethora of dirt pedals as well.

Franzoni, if you're looking for a clean boost pedal for acoustic guitar, check out the DOD FX10 BiFET Preamp....

finally, I don't mean to "hijack" this thread, but I've been collaborating with a friend on a DOD fan page, inspired by this site (although it will never be as good/complete as bossarea.com is for Boss pedals). we were waiting to add more content before "officially" announcing the site to the (bossarea forum) world, but the site has already found its way into Google searches without our help, so here it is:

Hi pawnshop_trash

Nice site, I can see it expanding with time.

Just one question, do you guys have a reason for not using other peoples images?
And it's posed just as a question.

Please feel free to e-mail image files of your pedals if you like, but regretfully we cannot use your pictures on this site.

Are you also looking for other peoples DOD S/N's?

Regards Dr. Bob

Hi pawnshop_trash,

Even though I have been guilty of not using my DOD pedals lately, I do have a few and I have had a lot of fun with them in the past - even though I knocked them earlier! To make it up to you....

Here is the list of them, with the serial numbers (xxx):-

Bi-Fet Preamp FX-10 (582358)
Psycho Acoustic Processor FX-87 (669977)
American Metal FX-56 (FX578403)
Classic Fuzz FX-52 (934985)
Classic Tube FX-53 (845046)
Vibro Thang FX-22 (624546)
Milk Box Compressor FX-84 (708472)
Supersonic Stereo Flange FX-747 (601215)
Mystic Blues FX-102 (699864)
Grunge FX-69B (V220081)
Overdrive Plus FX-50B (216438)

Your new site looks like it's coming along great and I hope this info is useful for your serial number decoder.

thanks, Dr. Bob! a handful of the individual pedal pages are detailed, but there's not a whole lot of content right now besides the serial number plot.

regarding images, the short answer is legal ownership for when/if we add advertisements. (we certainly don't expect the website to enable us to quit our day jobs, or to ever be paid at all, but it sure would be nice if ads helped pay for the ~$150/year it costs to host the site.) however, we may revisit that policy in the future, after we upload all of the content we plan to add.

regarding serial numbers, we had collected serial numbers from eBay auctions for over 2 years, but unfortunately that spreadsheet became too large and somehow became partially corrupted. we need to fix the spreadsheet and then add the backlog of serial numbers we've accumulated, but instead we have focused on adding content to the site (look for pages with the FX60, FX65, and FX90 (all cosmetic versions!) within the next few days). so feel free to e-mail serial numbers (or post them in the forum -- thank you, The Doc! -- although we should probably start a new thread), but I can't say when we will used them....

HI Franz,

About the adaptor: Find the right socket and any voltage will work, 9 works fine, 10 may work better, but it is all the same really, so seach for right socket on one of those universal adaptors and bob is your uncle.
