Oh, here are some other things I just remembered...In college I was the "drummer" for a band called The Jonestown Punch, and we passed out Kool Aid during our sets. The Jonestown Punch then evolved into the Oklahoma City Bombers (keep in mind that bombing happened in the US in 1995, and it was the summer/fall of 1995 when we used the name), and this is one of my favorite stories...
We went down to Memphis (we were all lived in Nashville) to play at some independent film festival at some bar/club. Since we were the Oklahoma City Bombers, I got the idea that since part of my "drumset" was a metal trash can and I had an assload of firecrackers leftover from the 4th of July, that we should each light a handful of firecrackers and toss them into the trash can as we went onstage so we could start our set with a big explosion and smoke. Since one of our friends was showcasing their films, we didn't want to piss off management with our fireworks, so I made sure to ask the club manager about it beforehand.
Jack: Is it cool if we light off a bunch of firecrackers during our set?
Club Manager: We've had GG Allin here, you guys can do whatever the F CK you want....

...for those of you who don't know who GG Allin is...do a google search if you don't have a weak stomach or are offended easily... |

your an easier going person than me ..i would of wrapped a mic stand around his teeth..... or at the very least refused him membership of the video shop..... .....i came very close to whacking a few people over the years, what saved the guy who caused the damage to my LS-2 was the fact he was with his girlfriend/partner......and i didn't realise how much damage at the time had been caused but i was pretty pissed off with the fact the P.A. speaker got bounced around off the backline...the singer had to calm me down a while back after we were getting jerked around with our fee after a gig by a one of the barstaff at a regular gig,the boss was on hols ,this guy asks us how much were owed,we tell him... 30 mins later no sign of the cash, the bass player asks him what the story is and he says the cash is all locked up in the safe...!!! come back tomorrow... there had been a few other minor niggles as well during the evening with him moaning about stuff that had never been a problem before in nearly two years.... the singer knows the warning signs with me and got it sorted .....i don't mess around,i turn up sober ready to gig,i do what i'm engaged to do and i don't expect or like to be messed around at the end of the night by wankers on a power buzz, whan all i want to do is go home and get some sleep... rant mode off..... ....... |

Had a nice gig this afternoon. We were asked to play during a benefit walk for the foundation against breastcancer. Off course we wanted to play, we did a bunch of other benefits, it makes great commercials Anyway, it was outside, on a farmyard and it was big fun. At least a 1000 people must've passed us, some of 'em kept watching for a couple of songs, judging from the looks of all those people they really appreciated it. It was a little chilly, but thankfully it didn't rain. We had a last minute replacement drummer, who didn't know all the songs so there were lots of impovisations. We play mainly copy tunes of classic rock, blues and rock n roll songs, so he did allright for the most part. I put some pictures up, I'm the bassplayer.

| Well last night was one of the less memorable gigs I've worked. I had to mix two very interesting bands... The first one was a drum kit (not tuned, sounded like arse) and two laptops with a tele plugged into one of the laptops. Lets just say free time drumming and square waves aren't cool. Second band was the same drum kit and a bass player with a rickenbacker plugged into a old fender bassman 100 and some shitty cornet tranny amp. No bass just distorted mids and highs. If you start with shit you end up with shit. Theres only so much eq'ing I could do! |

the "dude" with the tele had it plugged into a blues driver then into a line 6 delay pedal (the big green one) and into the mac. im not sure what program he was using butwhen i had a glanced at the screen all i could see was some square wave on the channel that i assume the guitar was on... |

Hey Dirk... great stuff! I used to run the "entertainment bandstand" for the local Humane Society (RSPCA) during their yearly outdoor fundraiser (the "pet party"). It's a great way to help out plus get some exposure.

Thanks guys. Gear wise we kept it real simple this time. I'm using my P-bass into a Hartke 5000 with an Avatar 2x12 cab, there's a Boss RDD-10 and a RCL-10 in the loop of the amp. I also have a nice GK 2x10 but I didn't need it volumewise. My brother (lead guitar on the pic left) used his old Epi LP std with Duncan alnico 2 pro pickups, a 2 channel, 50 watt JCM900 Marshall and a Marshall 2x12 cab instead of his other halfstack consisting of a 100watt JCM800 splitchannel head and a 4x12 w/ vintage 30's. Pedalwise, it's all Boss except for a TS-9, PW-10, GE-7 and DD-3. To my right, the rhythm guitar player with the white Epi LP custom used his JCM800 split channel 2x12 combo, the 100watt model. |

I'm with dirk on this.. you need to feel the amp behind you on live stuff especially rock n roll.... i saw john mclaughlin using an apple powerbook with his godin guitar and he had a great sound....but i still love feeling the roar and vibration of an amp especially with a few boss pedals in front..... ..... |
