I have a DD3 and a DD6. My DD3 cuts the delay effect clean when I stomp on the pedal to end the effect, but the DD6 in delay modes trails the effect off into oblivion instead of making a "clean break"
and cutting off the effect. Is this by design on the DD6? Is there a way to modify it so that it does cut off the delay signal?

Welcome to the forum!
I guess it is normal operation as this feature also hearable at DD-5. Means if you stomp the pedal and you want to cut off the effect it is doing it "smoothly" that the last effect phenomenon will be carried out before it comes to bypass mode! DD-3 just cut the effect immediately as you stomp the box!

Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Yes, the trail off is a design feature of the DD-6 & DD-7.
I'm not sure it can be disabled.
You could always use a bypass looper pedal, to instantly cut of & disconnect your DD-6, eliminating the trail off.

I like that feture in the DD-6, altho i am thinking aboout a new delay soon, and the DD-7 is in there...
BUT, what like are the Analogue delays on it??? As i may get a MXR Carbon Copy or a Ibanez AD9 Ri for analogut delays and keep my DD-6 for digitial delays, even tho i am also looking at a TC Electronics Nova Delay if that path dosnt work. |

My DD-7 is more "analoguy" than any other didital delay I have. It isn't the same as my DM-2, but it isn't offensive either... |
