Hi FRANZONI & Guys

Moved main text from:
http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?whichpage=1&TOPIC_ID=8085#68538

Here is my basic "Heads Up" on Line6, Floorboards, Foot-switches & the actuators.
And please don't consider this in negative perspective.
I know you gig hard,
& I wanted you to have all the experience & info I have gathered over the past few years, while working on this gear.

First of all, congrats on the Line6 FB4 foot switch.
IMPORTANT QUESTION:
(Apologies for shouting)

Did you get the cable with it?
(black RJ45-RJ45 in most cases).
The cable that connects to the POD & POD-Pro.
is wired as a standard:
(1) to (1) Ethernet cable with RJ45's at each end.
And easy to get at any computer shop - while on the road, if yours craps put.

WARNING - DO-NOT!!! accidentally use a "Crossover" cable.

You might fry the port on your POD-Pro.

I belive that the newer PODs are the same, but double check
with the manual of the tech support guys over on their site.

Good luck with the new 4 way floor switch.

I have started to trace out the FB-4 & the Long board (the hard way).
And "started" being the most operative word.
There are at least 3 chips in the FB4.
It's basically a resistive divider chain,
that feeds one of the (3) A-to-D converter ports on the POD/s.

And be aware that the foot switches are not real stomp switches.
They are the mechanical tops off, & that look like stomp switches.
They have a small conical spring underneath, that presses on an actuates PCB mounted switches, like the reset buttons on old Computer boards.
The switches are approx 8-10mm square & about 3-4mm thick, including the press button.

If you open it up you will see what I am trying to explain.
If you go to Maplin's or you local electronics store, buy a few similar switches as spares.
Or from Line6 spares - in your country.
They are not too difficult to change, & the spares are not expensive.

I have replaced a few over the years on various bits of Line6 gear, but not in the FB4.
To be honest I don't know anyone that has one;
As we all went stupid & bought the mega expensive,
Longboard (the one that's about the size on a small aircraft carrier ).
They was $1100au-$1400au at the time - as expensive as the first release of the POD.
And the FB4 was about $400au

Double check the mounting nuts, that hold the Stomp switch tops,
to the Metal case of the FB4, they do come loose occasionally.

And put a bit of lubrication on the moving actuator-spring section of this part
These actuators (fake stomp switch tops), are common on the 4 switch/button pedals like the DL4 delay & other similar products.

They are also being used on some guitar pedals;
Like the Crossroads & Belcat brands, & other re-badged brands.

Hi Dr Bob

Yep i did the same when i got the XTpro originally ..i bought the FBV shortboard... as i'm using my normal Boss pedalboard into the amp i needed something a bit smaller than an aircraft carrier to use on the gigs..... the FBV 4 gives me access to the first four programs on the Pod XT pro plus it will fit in my gigbag and yep the seller included the cable..i have a couple of these already but it's still handy having a spare... i use...

A/ for reverb

B/ brings in the effect loop with the Dynacord Leslie unit and a bit of reverb

C/ is a analogue delay sim which sounds prety good to me..

D/ is a 'special' program either a multitap delay or a stereo delay depending on the song..

The things i like about the FBV 4 is it's seems a lot more robust that it's newer version with the volume pedal built in..i'm not to fond of this on my shortboard and never really used it as either a volume or wah...also the FBV-4 still lets you tap tempo with your foot the delay time you want .......

Thanks for the info on the switches and where to get spares.....
