Here's a new one.. (or maybe an old one, and I can't find the thread)

I have a DD-3, it's a MIT (no long chip).... Problem is -> It turns on/off (led lights up) but NO SOUND comes through, even in bypass mode. The only way I can get sound out is to use the direct out jack.

Everything looks good. No obvious burn/scorched components. It's the same on both AC and battery power.

If this subject has been hashed out and solved, please point me in the direction of the thread.

Thanks Guys!

Assuming it is the SMD current version, I've had 2 of these where IC-18 is dead. Check pin 7 on IC18 for signal. Then pin 1 on IC1.

You're a GENIUS Laurie! It was IC1. Replaced the stock one with a OPA2134, works great, and it a LOT quieter than before.

THANK YOU!!!!

Excellent news MervsMods

Is this your first DD-3?

They are considered very highly by the guys here on the forum.
Franzoni runs 2 DD-3's in his gigging rig.

How much quieter realistically is the OPA2134?

I heard one fitted in a CE-2,
that was sent to me by HappyPlucker from the UK.
And in all honesty, it changed the characteristic sound of the CE-2,
both myself & a few seasoned muso's, thought it was not a positive improvement.

But I guess it's used as an output buffer on the DD-3, so quieter is always better in that position/situation.

Congrats again for saving another Boss pedal from Landfill.

Regards Dr. Bob

Hey Dr. Bob,

It's the first DD-3 that I've worked on that was MINE. All the other DD-3's that I've played with belonged to other people, and all I did with them was the Hi-Cut Mod that Monte Allums offers. I liked the pedal so much that I finally broke down and bought one, and it figures the one I buy doesn't work, and wasn't an easy fix (like a broken wire)! But I got it cheap, knowing it needed to be repaired, or was to become a parts pedal.

Comparing DD-3's side by side, the OPA2134 is quieter, and removed the "hiss" that I heard when the effect knob was on full. The stock IC is a 4558, which is a good IC, but the OPA knocked down the background noise a bit.

Other than that, the side by side testing didn't change the tonal characteristics at all (at least to MY ears)
