Hi folks
Among a few Boss pedals I also have an MXR-Phase 90, a pretty standard phaser pedal. I am considering buying a Boss chorus pedal, the CH-1, but I was wondering if the effect of the CH-1 wouldn't be too similar (watery, ambient sounds) to the Phase 90's effect?
I don't have too much space left on my pedalboard and I'd like to be sure that the difference between the two effects is big enough to justify the purchase of the CH-1.
Thanks for any opinions, Frederick |

I've got a CE-2 and MXR EVH 90 on my board and they sound completely different and do different this to the sound. I like to use the chorus effect for clean sounds, especially when playing chords or arpeggios. I use the phaser with an SD-1 for my lead sound to get a EVH type sound.
Anyway, you can never have too many pedals. |

Welcome to the forum Frederick!!!
Nice to meet you....
Regarding your question, Phase 90 and CH-1 are not similar, both of them are magnific pedal and useful on several aplication, so, go for your CH-1 and for a bigger pedal board...
But if you decided to forget your Phase 90, Remember me I will be VERY HAPPY if you will give me it like a present...jejejeje I'm kidding....You are a Lucky Guy.....
Regards |

Hi and welcome to the forum, Frederick and Plastic Stan.
I agree that the Chrous is very different from the Phaser effect. In most settings, they will sound so different that you won't have any difficulty hearing which effect is on. |

Phaser & Chorus, although time & modulation effects, are totally different.
In the same way, an 8 stage phaser is not the same as a 4 or 12 stage phaser. |

I see you live in Belgium.
Tell you what Frederick, I will give you my CH-1 if you send me some choice Belgium beer that doesn't get exported. If you can get some really good stuff I have a spare DC-3 sitting around.
Seriously, you guys make the best beer in the world. |

I'll keep that in mind too Right Foot Boss! i live close to the belgian border and must admit that those Belgians know how to make beer! The're also famous for their chocolates!
Isn't there something typical Dutch you prefer? |

Any chance you're in Amsterdam near an average coffee shop? I'll take whatever they have to go...

In Denmark the Dutch are known as the most liberal (this is a good thing) people in the world, other than that... oh, windmills and tulips?
To add to the topic, there's no way you can mistake a phaser for a chorus and vice versa. They are indeed two very different effects. In fact, until not too long ago I was certain that phaser was some kind of filter effect...

10 minutes down the road from from my house is the city of Holland Michigan also known for it's windmills and tulips. And regretfully as a highly conservative community. I guess we got all your prudes. |

Welcome to the forum.... ..nah the CH-1 sounds nothing like the phase 90...personally i think the CH-1 sounds best in stereo going to two amps,i also like mixing another pedal like a CE-2 with it and a bit of delay for Police/Andy Summers type stuff..i reckon the phase 90 and CH-1 together would be a interesting combination....
I lived outside of Rotterdam for about 10 months in the early 90's in a place called Dordrecht...... used to be in Amsterdam quite a bit.... good times... .... |
