So, as an academic exercise, I have been thinking about what the list of pedals would be if someone wanted to collect "them all" (all pristine in unmarked boxes, of course!)
It is clear that it is not simply a list of the 92 different models - it would be necessary to have one of each type of DD-3, for example. But where do you draw the line?
My completely arbitary criteria are as follows:- Where more than one type of electronics exists, you would need one of each type (eg. analogue and digital versions of the CE-5).
- If there are MIJ and MIT versions, you need one of each.
- If there are silver screw and black screw versions, you need one of each.
- Where there is a visible difference, you need one of each type. In this case, I arbitarily decided "visible" meant you can see it with the pedal sitting on the ground - so different base labels are excluded, but different lettering is in (eg. "Octave" and "Octaver")
Further, it seemed that if there were evolving versions that went maybe like this: a) SS, skeleton switch, long-dash b) SS, black switch long-dash c) Black screw, black switch, long-dash d) Black screw, black switch, short-dash ...then only the first and last need to be collected - (a) and (d) in the example above.
If these criteria are used, the definitive list of pedals one must collect would be (probably 152 pedals):
UPDATED LIST - 5 JAN 2010 http://members.shaw.ca/lauriepedals/Boss_Compact_Definitive_List_V5P.xls
NOTE: this list is still a work-in-progress.
This list doesn't include true "collectors" stuff like the SD-1 Zakk Wylde and the polished metal commemorative DS-1 and MT-2 (etc.)

I love this.. this speaks to my anal completionist side.
The only thing I see missing is the "Touch" variant on the TW-1 - but did that merely coincide (do all my posts have to do with this??) with the stamped serial changeover?
Also.. was there a knob change on the BF-2, or the CE-2B? Would that count?
I'd like to take this list and make an even more complete database - including different paint characteristics (bottom edge, underside of treadle) and other circuit changes (the TW-1, for example, also underwent a Raytheon->JRC change. Did the PH-1? What else did?).
Great job Laurie!! Thanks for your effort. Do you have this as an excel file by any chance?? |

Nice, that's quite the job Laurie. I don't collect really but it is an EXCELLENT reference nonetheless.
Thank you |

Feel free to copy this list and hack it about... I bequeath ownership to the group
FYI... as I am repairing and doing maintenance on pedals (mine and others) I am compiling a list of the chip-set in each pedal i open up. I'll publish that at some point in the future.

Quick question: Was the PSM-5 only a Made in Japan product? I have one...granted, it's been in its box for years and I haven't looked at it, but I'd swear its an MIJ. And I'm also thinking that I've heard of MIT versions as well.
A minor thing really, it just popped into my head as I was browsing the list. Great job, excellent reference! |

easy-92 Hard-139 Hardcore-all pedals with all differences! Somebody know how many?
That would be awesome. I was just about to get rid of my PH-1 black screw.. |

That's a very long shopping list. I may be 85% done but the last ones are very hard to find.
