"Of course, my GAS was too strong to wait for the results so I went and got myself a 2005 CH-1, a MIJ 1987 CE-2, and a MIJ 1986 CE-3. SO far I have only heard the CE-3 and was not at all impressed, but I'm starting to wonder if it was a weak battery issue." Well, I've spent some time with all three units now and this is what I can report: The issue with the CE-3 was indeed a weak battery and it sounded much better with a fresh one. That being said, it was still my least favorite of the three. The fairly easy winner was the CE-2. I tried not to be swayed by things I read here and I still have a couple of 'wishes', that both the rate and the depth controls had a greater range, but... What I like about it most is that it affected the original tone of the guitar the least, almost not at all, and has a very natural sound to it. The CH-1 was also very nice - the most quiet of the three and the most versatile, with the added 'E. Level' and 'EQ' controls. I probably could have been happy with this one without hearing the CE-2. The CE-3 is a nice pedal - they all are, I must say - but of the three it was the thinnest and least natural sounding, but I guess it will always be a matter of what sound you like and are looking for!
Thanks to everyone for their input! |

Hi 4evrnewB & Guys
The CE-2 actually has a slight mid range boost. (sparkle)
Try the CE-3 in a full 2 amp stereo setup, you might be surprised with the results. Put the amps about 6 feet apart.
As for the slight noise issue, they are Analog pedals.

Hi all, I'm probably a little late to chime in but I love my CE-2. Just can't find enough chances to use it!!!

There is much difference between the analog and digital CE-5 ??? Wich one is better: CE-3 or digital CE-5 ? As I said in another thread, I had a CH-1, and I have a HR-2 and in the 2 voice detune mode it sounds great like a chorus...

| I didn't read the whole thread here but I know poeple aren't going to like what I say. I do not like useing chorus in stereo. When I do HAVE to, I split my signal pre-chorus with my Super Shifter [not useally on] and the I can have one clean signal and one chorus signal that's not just the de-tuned delay sound like when most chorus pedals are split. I challenge you all to give it a try. I prefer the CE-5, or just faking chorus with a delay pedal and my hand on my Floyd Rose tremlo. |

| Hi! Im new here at this forum. Well, actually I have the same problem... I have a CE-2, DC-2 & DC-3. For a long time I used the DC-2 in my pedalboard, but now I use the CE-2, but, I noticed that when driving the ODs too hard into the CE-2 some strange sounds came out from it. I dont know why, so now Im thinking of put in the DC-3. But I think that all the three of them sounds good in their own way. But like a chorus alone, Ill choose the CE-2. Once I had a Roland RE-301 and the chorus in that unit was cool. Only a rate-knob and the chorus pitched the tone quite much. Have not heard that in any other chorus-pedal. So, my problem is, I dont know wich one I like the most in my setup, and I only have place for one of them... |

| man, for shoegazer, I find myself using 2 choruses ALWAYS. DC-3 plus whatever sound I choose from inside the me-x. Plus the option to turn on my EH Stereo Clone Theory. Warble DE-LUXE! |

Just an update: I now have a CE-5, too. It's from November 1991 so it's a very early one indeed and I must say, so far it sounds great. I might even prefer it to my CE-2 ... |

| I think my favourite is the CE-2 because of its warm lovely tone, and not forgetting that lovely blue colour. |

Hi 4evrnewB
Did you get the older Analog CE-5 or the newer digital CE-5? Some don't know that there are two different versions of this Circuit & Pedals.

Hi Dr, Bob - I'm going to guess from the sound and the date information that it's analog. Is there a definitive way to determine this (something about the circuit board, I've heard?). Going to play with it some more today - it's Saturday |

Hi 4evrnewB
The digital one has a big multi pin IC in it. The analog one has the MN3xxx series BBD bucket brigade Delay Line IC (only 8 pins) in it.
I posted some pics of my Analog CE-5 last year some time, or maybe I just mailed them to Bossarea's PM. Maybe he will chime in & remind me which ..
If you can please take a pic of the board in your one. and we will be able to tell you. Although Bossarea could probably tell you from the serial number.
I would still be interested if anyone has done a comparison of both.
Regards Dr. Bob |
