Is it possible to mod the NS-2 to true bypass? I know it can be a hassle to put a 3PDT switch in the enclosure like existing modifications but I was thinking about transferring the insides to a new enclosure.
The reason for this is that Ive just got an Analogman Sunface that does create some hum and needs to be in the NS-2s loop. However when the Sunface is in the loop of the NS-2, because its now got a non-true bypass pedal infornt of it which it shouldnt, it sounds pretty rubbish and there seems to be more unwanted noise.
I know that using the NS-2 after all dirt boxes with just the input/output jacks would solve this problem but then I need to turn the threshold up alot more which as a result looses some sustain.
What kind of switch can be used and how would I wire it up, if this can be done?
Thanks, and let me know if this doesnt make sense.

Even if you make the NS-2 true bypass, it won't make the loop true-bypass (the loop is buffered by design).
A 3PDT switch could be wired up to bypass everything (NS-2 included) but I don't think there is any way to set it up so your Sunface is presented with an un-buffered signal if it is connected to the NS-2.
My fellow technical folks - please correct me if I'm wrong |

Laurie is right - modding the NS-2 to true bypass (Boss pedals are not impossible to mod to TB, but it is physically very hard to do) will not get rid of the problem. The Sunface is a fuzz face-type circuit, which needs to "see" the guitar pickups directly. As you're using the Sunface when the NS-2 is active (in its loop), the bypass system on the NS-2 will not matter.
I'd put the Sunface first in line (with the guitar plugged straight into it) with a noise gate (the NS-2, if it can be used as a regular in-line noise gate, or something else if it can't) after it. The key is to not let anything active/buffered (such as the NS-2) come between the guitar and Sunface. |

The NF-1 might also be a good choice. Different people have different experience with the NF-1, but I have always found that mine work flawlessly.

Thanks for you help, I may try and get my hands on a NF-1.
Has anyone had any experience with other alternatives like the MXR smart gate or ISP decimator? They're slightly more expensive, are they any better? |

I have the NS-2, at one stage I tried the decimator, I honestly like the NS-2 better but others prefer the ISP. Sorry, this does nothing to address your problem |
