Hi dickybird Welcome to the forum from Australia.
The ME-70 is a very nice multiFX, I belive DeFrag bought one. It's still worth getting, even if you're not entirely happy with your current Carlsbro kickstart 35 amp.
I will change the tone of your amp, just from the fact that you will have so many effects & effect options.
You could consider getting an Second hand external speaker box, these sell relatively inexpensively. Then if your amp has a ext speaker out pug it into that socket. Else ask a Tech friend to wire up an external socket for you. Just watch the impedance of the external cab.
The ext. spkr socket should disconnect the internal speaker when in use. So that the internal spkr does not contribute to the overall impedance.
Even a decent 1x12 inch external can make a huge difference.
You can always sell off your amp later on when your finances allow you to.
I don't belive you'll be disappointed.
Have you considered getting a GT-6-8 secondhand? or an older GT-3-5 or an ME-8 It could end up a lot cheaper than a new ME-70.
Not to long ago I picked up an "As New GT-8" the guy wanted to upgrade, to the newer more expensive GT-10, & sold it off, for what I considered a bargain.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Regards & good luck Dr. Bob |

The ME-70 is totally worth the money. Its a tank & covers all the sounds well. I've actually used my compact pedals a lot less since buying the ME-70 & save on tone with less cable. The ME series seems easier to work with than the GT series.
I don't know much about your guitar & amp but if its a simple, robust, box of effects you need.. the ME-70 is a great choice! |

Hello & welcome to the forum!
Well, I guess it's all up to you! Go and check it out in your music store. Some of us here prefer multi-effects, some prefer compact pedals.
Advantages of multi-effects - Size
- Portability
- Versatility
Advantages of compact pedals - Possibility to shape your own sound, with unique combinations of pedals
- Only pedals/effects you need
- You can use gear of different manufacturers/different models
The amp question: an amp is very important, but there are companies that sell good & cheap (tube)amplifiers. (Peavey, Carvin, ...) A good amp affects your tone in a positive way.
As Dr. Bob said, keep an eye on the secondhand market! You can do some great deals out there. |

Don't forget:
Advantages of multi-effects:
- Less cable capacitance & subsequent tone-loss
- Fewer AD/DA converters & possible latency issues
- Usually one main tone-stack instead of having tone controls for each effect stage

More advantages of Multi-fx:
Smaller and esaier to transport. Much quicker to set up, usually only need one power supply. Have extra effects you can dabble with if you get bored. Preset patches. Want to go from slapback to 300ms delay-no problem. Can turn off or on multiple effects at one time easily. Just easier when playing, you can just select a whole "sound" without turning knobs on pedals, so you can set up your sounds at home with confidence when you have time. Probably actually easier to use in real life. Pedals have to be routed correctly have their levels set properly, lots of variables.
I'm looking at the ME70 myself. Is the Blackface 2x12 style COSM model supposed to be any good? Wasn't a fan of the FDR-1. |

| i'd say it's most definitely worth it bro. i bet my bottom dollar that this pedal will make that cheap amp sound like a high-end fender/marshall amp. it's a good multi-effects pedal, i like it as much as a line6 pod X3 live!! |

I bought an ME-70 last week, mainly because one band I'm working with is working up a Christmas song that I felt I needed a volume pedal for...good excuse! So I bought the ME-70 and to my surprise I'm liking it pretty good! More bells and whistles than I've ever wanted to use, and some effects I'll never use. And since I'm using a Boogie Mark I amp, I know I'll never use the preamp settings...but overall I can see using this for more gigs than I originally intended.
Highly recommended. |

Hi silvertone6120 & Guys
The ME-70 has a killer Pad patch, called something like Angels or Heaven.
I nearly bought one just for that patch.
If anyone has the settings for it, I would love to try & program it on the GT-8 or GT-3.
If I ever see one going S/H for a reasonable price, I would no questions asked, still get one.
The ME-70 has many good points, another one is that it has lots of Analog knobs to do quick on the fly changes to your patch-sound. Not so easy on some other mFX units, where you have to go 2-4 levels deep in some edit menu.
I'll see if I can find a demo of that patch, it was on one of the official Boss ME-70 demo video's I was when it first came out.
