You still have to bear in mind though that (obviously) this only gives you the date that the chips were made. The chips could have been sitting in a warehouse for a year before they were fitted to a PCB and sold as a pedal. So all you know is that the pedal could not have been made before the date on the chips.

If you really want to be geeky (who me?) then you can find the data sheet for each chip on the web. This will usually explain the batch codes in more detail and may be useful for those chips that don't have an obvious date code. A quick 'Google' often proves fruitful, but you have to identify the manufacturer as well...

Then we have to use the same method as dating vintage Fender amps (and others), by speaker codes and pot codes.
But still, this is great to know.

There was a discussion in this topic about silver screw DM-2�s, in Dave Hunters excelent book "Guitar effects pedals - the practical handbook" there is a picture of a silver screw DM-2 on page 50.
