One question again. Its fun how I trust you all here at BOSSArea! Cred for you!

I have my PH-1, BF-2 & CE-2 between od and delay/reverb. All good so far. But, I dont really know in wich order the three of them will be placed there between. All are modulations I guess, but is there a way that it will work better, worse aso. In other words, for example, will the chorus sound best after phaser and flanger, or between them? Or will the phaser sound better first of these three, or as the last?

And when going on, I have seen people putting their phaser in the beginning of the chain. Whats the win in that? I like it after overdrive but before delay, so im just curious.

heya,

well good or bad always depends on taste I guess.

I use my univibe (which is a kind of phaser) before my fuzz boxes

I don't really have a chorus / I use the VB-2 as my pseudo chorus and with the VB-2 it simply doesn't matter where it's placed (though I tend to use it as a first box in the chain).

my BF-1 comes after my OD and fuzzboxes

so all in all... erm.. wait that wasn't the question now was it?

I'd say experiment - it's more fun this way

Whatever clicks with your ears is the Golden Rule.

Here's my current clean amp setup:
Bunch O crap in front in a looper, soon to be multiple loops >
AC-2 > DC-3 > CE-3 or DOD fx65 > BF-2(jap) > Digitech Hyper Phase > Digidelay in tape-mode until Daddy gets an analog delay.

You just have to fiddle around with it until you find what you're looking for. Don't get lazy and just lay them down. Move 'em, tweak 'em, move 'em, tweak 'em, grab 12 more beers than you intended on drinking. Then you'll quickly figure out that you don't own nearly enough gear & in your drunken stupor, log onto your E-bay account & buy more or troll Craig's list. Then & ONLY THEN will you find true happiness & satisfaction.

boss recomends phaser, chorus, flanger as the way you should set up pedals,as long with other pedal manufactuers.i found this always works but expermintation should be the best

I would agree with zerksies on the order..i don't use a phaser anymore but i have the CE-2 before the BF-2 in between the compressor/overdrive and the delays....the CE-2 and the BF-2 on a chorus type setting sound good to me for real 80's chorus, very thick and warm sounding when used at the same time..i also find that both these pedals give you a bit of a boost when engaged...not really a problem for me as i normally use them on a clean or slightly dirty sound mostly.....

I also put my modulation effects between the dirt boxes and the delay. One exception is my pasher, that I always put before my dirt pedals. I like the way it blends with an overdrive better, less strong.

Thanks, its in that way now and sounded great. Now I can use chorus and flanger together with a good result. Tryed the phaser before dirt, but I like it where it was before, so now its phaser, chorus and flanger.

Where do you think an AC-2/3 would fit in there? Would it be with the modulation?

I guess ONE of the answers would be to put in somewhere around the same position as a/the Wah pedal.

The other answer, as most of the guys here will tell you,
is to Experiment...

I'd have to agree on the phaser before dirt pedals to make it less strong sounding. Here's a link to describe it.

Another trick in vol.19 of Boss books is a Flanger zeroed out on all knobs in to a delay set with long delay time

Thanks again Dr. Bob!

When I bought my BE-5 I noticed that the chorus was after delay "just to make te most out of it" or something I remeber that I wrote. I thought that was a little spectacular. I have always put my chorus before delay since its a modulation effect close to flanger. But, Why not, I guess that I have to take another evening out for moving arond stuff at the pedalborard. But its always nice when done.
