I'd have to agree on the phaser before dirt pedals to make it less strong sounding. Here's a link to describe it. http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~gmarts/fx-order.htm
Another trick in vol.19 of Boss books is a Flanger zeroed out on all knobs in to a delay set with long delay time
^^ what is the reasoning behind a flanger zeroed out and a long delay after? wouldn't a zeroed out flanger give you no real effected sound? |

Hi Shoegazers Anonymous & Guys
I'm not sure this will help you, but it's a good start. From the "Boss Guitar Effects Guide Book" Volume 12 - Page 65 (here on the Forum)

Thanks again Dr. Bob!
When I bought my BE-5 I noticed that the chorus was after delay "just to make te most out of it" or something I remeber that I wrote. I thought that was a little spectacular. I have always put my chorus before delay since its a modulation effect close to flanger. But, Why not, I guess that I have to take another evening out for moving arond stuff at the pedalborard. But its always nice when done.
By the way... Have someone tryed this out and find it good working? Chorus after Delay? Wins or loses?
yep..... i used to run a CH-1 in stereo at the end of my pedals into two amps works fine with delay and all the other effects.....
about the flanger set to zero..i never heard of this one before but it would be easy enough for me to try in rehearshal as i have a BF-2 and a couple of DD-3's on my 'board....i do sometimes run the chorus into the flanger with the flangers manual and res knobs set to zero and the rate and depth set the same as the CE-2..it makes the CE-2 even thicker sounding with a little bit of sweep to the sound.... also i find that both these pedals give a slight midrange volume boost, not a prob for me but some people might be put off......... |

Can't find a link to the books...soo.... Boss Pocket book, vol. 19, pg 27 "The basics of a chorus and flanger are similar to a delay, and so it the circuitry. For example, turning flanger resonance down to 0 produces a chorus sound, while zeroing out all the flanger controls results in a unique short delay"
"If you combine a flanger and delay, you can add a flanger-created short delay as well as a long delay to the sound. The short delay and a long delay sounds contain distinctive reverb which offer spaciousness and richness."
Same as running a short delay into long day with two delay pedals.
The BF2 and CE2 do have similar schems, and same delay times of 13-23ms. Try zeroing out your Delay and Resonance knobs to see. The Manual controls the delay time, while the Delay knob controls the sweep width along with the Manual. Guess this also answers my own question about the old Ibanez Chorus pedal and a knob labeled Width.
Also the HF2 and BF2B Flangers have less delay time of .5-13ms Only have the HF2 myself, and that goes before other 'doublers' Doublers being flangers, chorus and delays. |
