Hi all, I'm a new member here and this is my first post as my RV-3 does not work properly and I need your help.
The problem I am facing with is my RV-3 has no dry signal coming out of the box and the delay/reverb sounds freaky and error.
A local shop has checked and told me that 2 main chips are malfunction and I need to find these 2 spare parts.
The BOSS agent in my country said those parts are not available and nothing I can do rather than throwing it away !!
Do you have any idea where I can find such parts? Thank you in advance for your help.
Nuttmanuts PS: sorry I am not so good in English. |

Welcome to the Forum!! Do you have any pics you can share of your poor lil RV3? Recently got a DM3 repaired, and it was suffering the 'no effect' issue, and turned out to be the 1571C chip. Was told that he pulled out the chips to test them. Which chips are they, theres about four main ones |

Thank you ChristoMephisto for a warm welcome !!
Since the box is still at the repair shop (for more than a year actually), may I use a pic from this forum instead.
However, I am sorry I can not figure out how to post the pic, so please see the marked ones in the attached file.
Again, thank you.

Hi nuttamanuts
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
You do not mention what level of electronic repair & diagnostic skills you have, or a friend might have? Do you have the skill & tools to work with & replace SMD components?
Without using any diagnostic tools or test gear, and spending just a few $$$ on parts:
I would look at IC1 the output buffer opamp. Then IC2 the input buffer opamp. (both are M5218A SMD dual opamps). And I would also look at the 2 bypass FETS, (which are 2SK880 SMD FETs).
Unless you belted the RV-3 with some strange over-voltage I would not suspect the main custom SMD IC's to be damaged. It's rare that they would be damaged.
Please let us know what gear & tools you have, so we know what we can ask you to check.
Check for the usual things like loose wires, bad solder joints burnt parts, or funny burnt smells on any of the components.
By the way, you also didn't mention how or why your RV-3 failed in the first place? One year in the service shop is far too long a time - perhaps you should go get it back.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Thank you Dr. Bob for your advice.
I would say my RV-3 was gradually malfunction. At the time, it first showed up such symptom after I plugged it in and play for a certain period. Then each time I played it, the normal-working period became shorter and shorter.
I am quite confident that there was no electric shock to the box at the time as other boxes around including DD-3 still work properly until now.
I personally have no electronic skills rather than soldering I just was told by the service shop that there is no output from this 2 chips and they could not find identical spare parts.
So it would be better to forward your useful recommendations to one of my friends who probably can help me out on this.
I will ask the service shop as well if they could help checking according to your recommendations.
I will get back to you soonest.
Again thank you. Nuttamanuts |
