Other forums have an extended URL function where it displays a name rather than the actual link. For example:

[url=http://www.bossarea.com/forum]Bossarea Forum[/url]

This allows the link to go to the URL but you only see text to click on not the URL itself.

I'm not sure if its too late to implement this at this stage but it would be really useful.

It's already there.

See the RED arrow in red box, on attached picture.
Use the "Insert Hyperlink" Icon.
A few member already do use this function.

While you are at it, you might want to Mouse Over, & checkout the other icons/options as well.

Horizontal Rule.
Insert Hyperlink.
Insert Email.
Insert Image.
Insert Code.
Insert Quote. - a lot of member use this.
Insert List.

Not:

]url]http://www.bossarea.com/forum[/url]

so when you post your topic you'll see a certain text underlined rather than the actual URL. so you'll see:

Bossarea Forum which links to http://www.bossarea.com/forum

rather than

http://www.bossarea.com/forum which links to http://www.bossarea.com/forum

What you need to do is to put the URL in double quotes. That way the forum software will interpret the link correctly and the link will work as it's supposed to.
