that price was nuts.....for a whammy pedal....a friend of mine had one years ago exactly the same and it was a good effect but the item itself was a bit flimsy..not very robust....not like boss.... |

It's the first version of the Whammy, from the early 80's (90's sorry) good condition, with box. It's a really good collector item. The price is high, but it's kinda logical, in a collector's market.
If you want to play (what a silly idea... ) with a whammy, just buy a current WH-4. |

| I knew these were going for a lot, but man 790 USD. That is getting a little excessive. Are they really that rare? |

| Jonny Greenwood and Tom Morello use them - GEARKILLERS, that explains the price. |

Whammy WH1 was released in May of 1990.
It was soon replaced with the whammy II, (1993-1994) with a completely hands-free foot selectable re-work.
The WH 4 was released to re-capture the mojo of the wh1, why the heck Digitech didn't simply start making the WH1 again??? silly indeed.
I have heard that digitech was only licensed the software (an eprom) and did not own the software in the WH1 so they had to find someone else to update the product hence the wh2.
I agree with comments above - for the typical player the WH4 can be had dirt cheap, and probably sounds good enough; by far the WHII is the easiest to use, I've had three of em.
If you read reviews at HC or anywhere else, some people complain that they sound cheezy, well, if you play an e harmonic on the 12th fret (or 5th fret for that matter) and push it up two octaves, whaddyathink that sounds like???
Some players swear by the WH 1, as Edge and all those famous guys used it back in the day, however, ALL whammy pedals are somewhat squirelly in that live tracking and pitch shifting is a complex computer task (people complain about trackin on any shifting device)
If you want to have handsfree fun, just get a WHII for $200, and in this case, save yourself $600!!!! |

must have been the wh4, franzoni, the WHII is like a steel brick made out of plate metal. seriously, you can throw a WH1 at a brick wall 10 times and nothing will happen to it, the wh2 will lose its side panels, the wh4, will likely blow to bits. |
