Hey Franz, my kid plans to buy the POD X3 Live. What do you think?
I go ampless all the time, and have done for a long time.
I had a phase of using the Boss GP20, then a SansAmp, now a POD. Don't underestimate the POD... I've found it to be very studio friendly.
no i agree,i've used the pod in a recording situation with good results,in a live situation it would depend on how good your monitors are or if your using a power amp and speakers...the point i was making was it's not great IMHO going into the front end of an amp no matter what line 6 say, possibly with a keyboard amp as i think it has full range speakers like a acoustic amp or P.A.it might sound better as paul H pointed out..... |

Line6 toneport (first generation). Nothing wrong with the unit and effects itself, but every time I unplugged it and plugged it back in, I had to go through the entire installation process again. it wasn't just my computer either, it was the same on other (much better) computers. I don't know if they fixed this, but it was enough to make me ebay it. I couldn't go around with a big plastic box plugged into my laptop all the time...and as for the copy protection..... |

in my wild and crazy youth, i bought a boss rv-3 brand new for $269.95 plus tax. .
I took it home and if you were sustaining a note and engaged the effect, it would drop the signal enough that you could tell it dropped the signal.
30 minutes later i had my money back.
I tried an RV-3 again, off ebay, for around a honey, and it did not do that. I later found the reverb to be thin compared to my amp reverb (which is controlled only by level control on the BACK panel of all places) and well, I sold it and gave up the longer delay for some DD-2s.
As far as useless goes? I think my boss made in china A/B switch. Used it once. |

I have the XT Live.
I recommend it for home recording, headphone practicing and programming top40 sounds if you play in a 'wedding band', or church or some steady gigging where you may not be looking for your own signature sound BUT you want to be able to quickly replicate a wide variety of tones, easy to program, easy to switch, like a "top 40" gig player would need. Nothing beats it for headphones, it has a big sound and endless effect tweaking.
It also doubles as a 'keep my teenager at home' tool for how much time one can actually spend working it. |
