So I was in my local and favourite guitar shop today and the owner was telling me about the TC electronics vintage series pedals. I have the vintage dual distortion, a fine pedal, and he said to me that it was in fact a T-REX Dr Swamp(original version) in all but name, and that T-REX provided all the circuit designs for TC Electronics. He A-B'd a few of the (now discontinued) TC electronics vintage series pedals with their T-REX brethren and he was absolutely right, they even looked pretty much the same.
So essentially this:

Is this:

In all but appearance...
thoughts?
(thanks to Mully for the heads up!) |

I too have heard that they're sharing circuits. If one was made in China, I'd be worried, but they're both MIDenmark, and made excellently.

Absolutely! I can personally vouch for the TC electronics pedal and I'm tempted to go for more of the vintage series as cheaper alternatives to T-rex pedals. I think the single "vintage distortion" is the same circuit as the T- rex mudhoney pedal, for example. Apparently the main difference is that T-rex are hand made, whereas TC electronics use more automated methods. Can't complain though, still sounds excellent. |
