| I need a few 8-32 knurled thumb screws, which is a bit bigger than the ones Boss uses. Surprisingly, no local 'screw supply' store around me sells anything like this. Does anyone have a source? Small Bear has the Boss-type and size only. Thanks. |

I'm in Winnipeg, which is unfortunately not Toronto by a long shot. The Brafasco web site looks cool, but strangely the catalog is down for 'updating'. I can find a hardware store every other block who will order from Spaenaur for me, but with a minimum order of one box of 100 pieces. I'd need like two screws or three at most. I just don't feel like paying $200 or $300 to get two thumb screws. My last resort is this;
 Which wouldn't look too horrible. Those you can buy ant any Revy or Home Depot for maybe $1 each.

Hi ranjam
Just wondering - interested? What kind/brand of pedal/gear are you going to use the 8-32 knurled thumb screws on?
Regards Dr. Bob

| Well, if you promise not to question my manhood or my sanity, I will reveal all. My story starts when I had a few friends give me more than a few dead pedals, which of course they stripped a few parts from. I figured since I am the labor, just a chip or two is cheap to have a whole lot of new toys to play with. I surprisingly got most of them going again, which included some nice MIJ Boss stuff. Now I needed thumb screws and knobs, and maybe a rubber grommet or three. Now I hit the local music stores and ask for their dead pedasl, just to have the parts. One store gave me a lot of pedals made by a company called Rockson, and they looked like dead-ringer Boss clones. Cheaper and MIT, but fun looking. Of course, they were missing the thumb screws a lot of the times, but I took them anyways. And, to add to my hunt, I got most of them going. One Rockson was a CE-2 clone, so I really wanted that going so I could try some CE-2 mods. I have it sounding great, but for now I have a regular 8-32 machine screw so it's usable. Not pretty, but usable. The pedals work nice, and I don't touch any of my vintage Boss pedals. Unfortunately, the thumb screws are 8-32. So here I am, asking for a source. |

| That socket head screw may be my only option, unless (and I can't believe I am considering this) I go the eBay route. |

I've never seen an 8-32 thumb screw for sale. They are probably/possibly a special manufacturing run for the pedal maker.
All the Japanese stuff is metric (the Boss screws are M3), and 8 gauge is 3.264mm with the wrong pitch.
Not sure what to recommend other than the cap screw you have found. |

| Did you think about re-tapping the cases for something that you have on hand? Especially if you're not too worried about how they look, then you can stuff any screw you want in there.. Just an idea |

I have thought of that. I've got a few Boss screws I ordered from Boss (the new black type) for newer Boss pedals I have. But they are a smaller size than what Rockson is using . So I can tap it for bigger thumbscrews (if I can find bigger thumbscrews), and I thought of filling the hole with JB Weld and redrilling/tapping it for the Boss screws. But that's a lot of hassle for a cheap pedal, no matter how good it sounds. 8-32 thumbscrews are available, but as I say, I have to order 100 of them from Spaenaur. That's about $300 to use a couple of cheap pedals. |
