Any of you own an SE-70? I'd love to hear what you think of it. If you've compared it to an SE-50, that'd be even better.
Thanks.
Grace and peace,
Steve

Yep,
I run an SE70. Its becoming a bit special these days. All the best features of the SE50 and then some. It sounds more...organic than newer processors. More analog if that makes sense, considering that it is digital. (Mind I only use it for the mod, del and verbs.) Scott Henderson has 2 in his rack and really rates them. It sounds great, though I run it through a PATCHMATE so that its not in my signal when I don't need it. Overall, a bargain effects unit, and I'm tempted to buy another because it is going to become an absolute classic - I'm sure...

That explains why I can't get a cheap one on ebay.

I have the SE-70. Use it mainly for the modulation effects. The chorus, delay and reverb effects are nice. Not too crazy about the distortion and overdrive effects, though. I have never tried the SE-50, so I have no idea what the differences are. Sorry.
Since I have almost all of the effects featured in the SE-70 individually, I use it for my analogue synth, for the modulation effects.
Got it used about 8 years ago. I don't remember exactly how much I paid for it, but I think it was around US$200. It was in mint condition with all packing materials and paperworks. The seller was about 50 miles away from where I lived, but the trip was well worth it.
Have the SE-50 and SE-70 become collectible, too? Just curious. |

The SE-70 is supposed to have analog distortions. The distortions on the SE-50 are awful. They sizzle & crackle as the siganl decays. Bad early digital distortion.
My SE-50 has some high frequency noise that is annoying. Bossarea has the later version and says his doesn't have that issue.
Do you hear any noise from the SE-70?

My SE-70 is pretty much noise-free.
I suppose the SE-70's distortion/overdrive sounds are OK if you need something quick for a demo. IIRC, combining the distortion sound with the pitch-shifter effect can be fun.
I did not know the SE-70's distortion effects were analogue until now, but I still think my ROD-10 (probably also analogue) sounds better. |
