instead of the BF-2 i've been searching for a long time now...
will the HF-2 do the job? i'm after a good 80's flange to suit hair metal music....
also, what do the knobs control? i know what rate and depth does, but what about the other ones??
also, is it true that the HF-2 has only half of the speed the BF-2 has??? |

hey nilo.
you will probably find out that most people seem to favor the HF-2. i do for the reason that its not as "in your face" as the BF-2. to me it sounds a little "dryer" than the BF-2. kinda like the PH-1r over the PH-2 (which has a "wet" kind of sound).
as far as speed goes, i think theyre the same. if you crank the rate knob on both pedals, they both do the agitated warble sound.
and the 4 knobs are Manual, Depth, Rate and Res. Depth sets how wide the flange sweep is. rate sets the speed that it goes through the sweep. Res sets how much flange is heard. if its set low, you can barely hear it, if set high, the flange cuts through more. and Manual is hard to explain kind of. as i see it, if set low, the sweep starts in the bassey areas, and if set high, it concentrates more on the higher regions.
it also sounds amazing and chorus-like with clean settings. although if youre after 80s hair metal, you might not want to overlook the BF-2. |

Its true about the speed of the HF-2, its speed is .5 to 6.5, same as the bass in both bf2b n bf3. The BF2's speed is 0-13ms.
Altho the LFO is the same at 100ms.
Like Strato said, its not in your face compared to the hiband which doubled sound is an octave higher. Read somewhere the hf2 is better suited for rhythm due to its speed. Maybe for those 80's metal/love ballads. Try them both if you can.
The knobs are funny, the manual controls the delay time, clockwise for shorter, and longer at minimum. Depth sets the sweep from there, crank it and its wide, and vice versa. The res can take over your sound, that can be good if you like the jet swoosh.
The HF-2 and the PH-1r sound great together, like how the BF-2 and the PH-2 sound great as a combo.

For me as a bassist, the HF-2 is my secret wapon. It is always on. It ads a little 'swurl' to the high frequencies and I just love it. (For bass it is one of these effects you only hear when it's off, but man how I miss it when it's off.) |

Nice bit of information.
Does it really make that much difference?
I'm guessing it has little effect on the low notes & fundamentals.
I'll pass it on to my Bass playing friends;
But I guess I'll loose my HF-2 for a while...
Do you have any recommended settings?

Hi Bob,
Yes it has no effect on the low notes (that is a requirement for a bass-player and it is unfortunately not truth for a lot of other pedals).
I like to set it up in a 'chorus'-like way, meaning: manual at 3 o'clock, resonance almost off (not past 9 o'clock) and the depth and rate to taste.
It just makes the bass-notes so much more 'alive'. I love my HF-2  |
