My muse has been visiting me quite frequently this past week, and left me a nice surprise earlier today...
I was playing acoustic for my three month old son because he seems to love it. It was a familiar song that I have played many times before but my ears were drawing my fingers to different frets. I couldn't understand why but I went with it and a new song progression came out of it. So I go back to my little 4-track to record it down. And figure I'd better tune my acoustic before I lay it down. And there it is, my B string was tuned a half step up. In the thirteen years I've been playing I've never written anything outside of standard tuning.
Just wanted to share with the all of you.
Regards, Right Foot |

I finally broke down and joined myspace. And if anyone asks, I'll say Dr. Bob made me do it. But it is cool that I have a place to 'show off' my songs.
The song I am talking about is titled The Rowan Tree because my son's name is Rowan.

Hi Right Foot Boss
Very very nice, I can hear why your son loves it, & the tuning is interesting, very subtle.
I've been accused of many things, but now of getting people to join myspace...
To be honest, I've been toying with the idea for a long time, It would let more people listen so some of my tracks, & in the long run, I think that's a good thing.
Have to go listen to the other tracks.

Thanks Dr. Bob. I too was toying with the idea then you inadvertently pushed me to do it. As for the interesting tuning... Everything is tuned down slightly but not purposely, that is just the way my acoustic is. I'll tune it perfectly play it for a bit, set it down and the next time I pick it up it is already tuned down. After a few times of repeating this I figured my acoustic was trying to tell me something. So I decided it knows what's best for itself and kept the slight detune. |
