Hi everyone,
As I've seen discussed a few times on the board, it seems like sometimes pedals will default to on when the power is turned on with a daisy chain.
I have my pedals in a BCB-60, with a DS-2 and DD-7 that auto-on but a BD-2 and DD-3 that do not.
Can anybody tell me what pedals absolutely have to auto-on when they're powered this way? Or can any pedal be either way? For instance, I've seen OD-3s and MT-2s that have defaulted both ways.
I wish there was a standard, but I guess it just depends on the builder because it seems to vary based on production date. |

| Not Depending on the builder i'm sure but a pedal built for the last 20 years or so must have variance's. If it's not a digital pedal you can change the starting status as described somewhere here on the forum. |

Found it, Flip Flop Swap
In your case you can change the Auto-on state to an Auto-off state for the DS-2 and BD-2
(Found the link by searching Laurie and Flip Flop ) |

Ah ha. Thanks!
Is there a list somewhere of the Boss pedals that are digital and cannot have this done to them? |

My guess would be:
Delay: DD-2, DD-3, DD-5, DD-6, DD-7, DSD-2, DSD-3
Chorus: CE-2, CE-3, CE-5, CH-1 DC-3 Pitch shifter: PS-2, PS-3, PS-5, HR-2 Extra: RC-2 COSM: FDR-1, FBM-1, FRV-1, AC-3, FZ-5, DN-2, ML-2
I'm sure about the Delay pedals due to their AD/DA converters but i'm not sure about the rest i'm sure somebody around here does know exactly which ones you can and cannot. |

I tried this with my CE-3 but had no luck yet.
So far, I changed Q11 with Q12, R57 with R60, C34 with C35 and C32 with C33 according to this schematic:

Sometimes it just won't work... Whenever I mod a pedal for a customer, and I find it to power up "on", I try switching the two transistors in the flip-flop circuit - sometimes that does it, and sometimes it doesn't.
But in this case - a BCB-60 full of pedals that all power up at the same time - there are other factors as well. When pedals of this type (Boss or Ibanez, with flip-flop circuits) are connected together with a daisy chain, powering one up (for instance if you plug in the power to one pedal after the others have already been powered up) will often change the state of the ones next to it.
So this might not be a problem with the flip-flop circuit in the two pedals that powers up "on" (do they do it on their own as well?) - it might be something that happens because there are other pedals connected to the same power line also waking up.
