I just got a live CD today, Tokyo Warhearts by CHILDREN OF BODOM, and it is a great live CD. But I was wondering, what are your top 5 favorite live albums/cds, not what are the best, but what are your top 5 favorites?

Here's mine, in no particular order: Go For It...Live by Fu Manchu, P-Funk All-Stars Live by P-Funk All-Stars, Hippodrome Paris '77 by Iggy Pop, Johnny Cash Live in San Quentin, Cypress Hill Live at the Fillmore....

Peter Frampton - Comes Alive
Frank Zappa - Tinseltown Rebelion
Journey - Captured
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Deep Purple - Made In Japan

In 10 minutes I'll probably be kicking myself for forgetting about something really great.

Irrelevant trivia: I went to one of the shows that was taped for this album -- Cobo Arena in Detroit, I think in May of 1980. I've still got the ticket stub stashed away somewhere. There's one point in the recording where Steve tells the crowd that they're taping; that was the night I was there.

Awesome!
I went to a Steve Vai concert where it was announced that it was being recorded for a live album. When the album was released there was absolutely nothing from the show I went to.

I know the feeling, as on the insert for Fu Manchu's Go For It...Live CD, they have pics of a few posters from various shows in the booklet/inserts, and one of the posters featured is for a show that I was actually at in Nashville. However, I don't know if this show was taped for use on the CD, but when I listen to the CD sometimes I think I can hear myself screaming a certain song when they ask,"What do you want to hear next?"

This thread got me thinking that I don't listen to that many live cd's. I go to plenty of concerts, but these are the live cds I can think of that I own and enjoy:

Cream - Live @ Royal Albert Hall
Hendrix - Live @ Berkley
Nirvana - Unplugged in New York (If that counts)
Johnny Cash - Live @ Folsom Prison (although both this and San Quentin are great)
Modest Mouse - Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again

Its funny because the live CD I just got made me think that I did not listen to many live CDs either, so thats why I just said top 5 favorites, but after coming up with those 5 cds, I have thought of 5 more, so maybe I should have said top 10....Here are the other 5: MC5-Kickout the Jams, Bad Brains-Live, Ozzy Osbourne & Randy Rhoads-Tribute, Bob Marley & The Wailers-Live, Iron Maiden-Live After Death.

Yes I do, the good Captain is one of my alltime favourites. I was knocked in the late 60s when I first heard Trout Mask Replica.

Don't have the live Fu Manchu album... I'll have to try to find that one.

I'd like to add:

KISS - Alive (even though it's not really "live")
KISS - Alive II (even though it's probably EVEN LESS "live")
Hellacopters - Live at the BBC's Maida Vale Studio (bootleg)
Misfits - Evilive (because it's *very* live and incredibly raw in all it's chaotic, out-of-tune glory)

Can't think of a fifth one offhand, but I'm sure that this live Fu Manchu album will end up on my list too.
