How can I tell the date of a pedal if the serial number sticker has been removed/destroyed? (battery compartment corrosion from the previous owner)

there are many indications of the production date but they're often different from pedal to pedal. In some cases the pedal's appearance has changed through its production span and in other cases, the components inside has changed. In many cases you will often find production dates of transistors and integrated circuits printed on the components themselves.

If you give us as much information as you got about the pedal, we might be able to help you narrow down the production year a bit.

Alright, I was abit tired and vague with my post last night, so lets take a closer look..

Type 3 label narrows it down to '81-'89.

Next to PH-2 on the circuit board is printed '75226510'.

The chips used are 'Roland IR3109', 'Sharp IR9022 762B', 'NE571N K8421' and 'M5218L w/ a Mitsubishi logo'. CB is brown in color if that matters.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.

The Japanese production of the PH-2 was between late 1984 and early 1990 so that narrows it down a bit.

The NE571 is the Compander chip and is one often used to date Boss pedals. The 8421 code means 21st week of 1984. 21st week is usually somewhere May-June. That's when the chip was made. Boss typically kept components for a short time before using them so I think a good guess might be that the pedal was made maybe September-October 1984.
