Hi Guys,
I have recently been selling off gear (mainly pedals) that I don't really use. This has given me some cash to play with so I've bought a few items...

My most recent purchase is the white Fender Jazz Bass on the left. It's a Mexican fretless equiped with Rotosound flatwound nylon strings. It sounds great (like a double bass almost) and plays almost as nice as my American standard J Bass (on the right).
I tried the trick of detuning to B but the strings were way to floppy to be played properly (must be a nylon string thing as this works great with normal strings). It still sounds deep and thumpy tuned to E so I'll probably stick with that for now.
I love my new Tiny Terror (I use it with guitar not bass). It has fantastic tone! I was originally going to get a matching Orange cab but I've been running it through my Marshall 1960 lead cab and it sounds awesome.
Finally, I also have a new wireless system (hard to see in the pic but it's fitted to the Mexican J Bass). I bought a Line 6 XDS95 system. I've had no interference problems thus far and it's as clear as using a cable. I don't understand why so many people feel the need to bag wireless.
Anyway... I still have a few things to sell on eBay, so hopefully I'll raise enough money to make a sizable dent in the cost of buying a 12-string acoustic (maybe a Martin...). |

Hi natthu
Nice pedal/s for newer gear conversion...
Can I ask if you purchased the Tiny Terror new or S/H. And if it's not too much to ask? How Much?
I can't figure out if I should build a new small tube amp, or get something like a TT of the HT-5...
I've been collecting some tube bits to build one on rainy days.
Nice gear - I have never played a fretless. The Line6 wireless system gets a good review.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hey Dr. Bob,
I got the Tiny Terror new for $750. I have a mate in a guitar shop who gives me pretty good prices on stuff. I'd love to build my own amp one day, unfortunately I don't have the time or knowledge to at the moment to do so.... one day.
If you do decide to buy a small tube amp I can highly recommend the TT (I think Defrag also uses a TT?). It has a really nice crunch distortion and a very useable clean sound. I tried the Vox Night Train (name?) and that was ok (much cheaper), but the TT has better control over tone. Plus it's very cute. It's also very loud... at 15w it easily competes with my Marshall head (100w SS). The TT sounds so much better loud than the Marshall though.
Fretless is bugger to get used to, I haven't played one myself for about 10 years but I think I'm getting okay at it now...

| Cool basses, Natthu! I've always been a Jazz bass lover myself. The smooth neck, cool pickups and amazing sound and playability (especially that) make it for me much better than the P bass. |

Cheers! I've never really felt the need for a P bass myself (although they are a great instrument and I wouldn't complain if they were giving them out). I think the P Bass is a little too 'rock and roll' for my liking.... The J bass just seems to have a bit more finess about it. Plus that neck is awesome!... just makes me want to play.

I'm already toying with the idea of getting a second TT (for stereo). I was wondering if it would be worth getting a bass TT, but still for guitar. Would that give you a fuller sound with a bit more low end?
Do you have any fav settings you think I should try out? |

Are there many fretless players out there? I'm sure Kulten plays fretless (extremely well) but I haven't noticed anyone else mention them.
This is actually my second foray into the world of fretless bass. A mate of mine sold a crappy Yamaha one to me for $100 in the mid 90's. I hated it... it was terrible to play, so I never used it much. This time around though... |

Bass TT? Maybe lower end.. best to ask that over at the Orange Forum
I'd highly consider the Dual Terror for the other side of your stereo TT setup. I'd sure like to try one out if it wasn't for my other 2 amps in my own stereo setup (Blackheart & Rebel).
TT favorite settings? 7W, Vol 2:00, Tone 11:00, Gain 1:00 |

I joined the Orange forum. I'll probably lurk for a few days to get a feel for it before I post...
I wasn't even aware of the Dual Terror. Looks great. Might just have to try one. I assume that the TT channel is the same sound you'd get from a TT?... otherwise that would be a stupid name for it. Do you know if you can footswitch between the 2 channels (surely)? I'll have to devise a list of questions for the Orange forum. Maybe I'll get a Bass Terror aswell to complete the set!
I like your suggested setting (although, I'm guessing it probably sounds different in your hands due to different cab/guitar/music style etc...)
My housemate told me his favourite setting for my guitar playing was: "OFF". How rude! |

Well, I play double bass, apart from (fretless) electric bass. I haven't seen anyone else here on the forum... |
