Back when I was traveling to the Philippines during the '80s when I was singing in a band there, the guitar players I knew in the band I was in and others who played guitar in other bands would always refer to the Boss pedals as "gadgets". I'd be talking to them on the phone telling them that I was coming soon from Japan and they would always say "don't forget to bring all your gadgets so we can use them." I've never forgotten about that and thought I'd tell you about what they call Boss pedals in the Philippines. I'd always laugh when they would call them gadgets.
The term 'Gadget' or gadgets is one i would of heard a lot growing up in Ireland used by older people for anything new especially something like pedals....i remember when we got our first remote control for the TV and my Mam and Dad would refer to the remote control as the 'gadget'....she still when shes looking for it to change channels if it's gone missing somewhere... is this not a word you would hear in the states used to described stuff...?..
Around here a lot of stuff is refered to as "box", so the box for the TV is the remote, a box can also be an extention cord with multiple outlets, or any effects pedal one might use, etc.
