I just bought one Squier Sub-Sonic baritone, crafted in Korea 2001, but I cant find much information about it on the net like specifications etc. An impressive guitar by all means and I sure like it, very good build quality. Does anybody have information of this guitar?

Hi Goran
That's a nice looking guitar.
You will have to give us a longer review-opinion. Once you have played it for a bit longer.
Regards Dr. Bob |

I have played it several hours now, also put in push-pull pots for single coil sounds, this is good as the twang-factor is a bit low with humbuckers. But with humbuckers this thing really growls combined with for example Boss ML-2. The pickups are not high end of course but good enough for me, later on I might change them if I find some higher quality pickups cheap. But as said, this is not nessesary. The neck is very good and have jumbo frets (extremely well-done fret job) so its easy to bend those thick strings, the neck has a 27 scale, not as long as my Danelectro baritone. As its a neck trough there is a tremendous sustain and resonance. The neck is also very flat so the action can be set really low without string buzz. The neck joins the body with a so called Stevens extended cutaway so its easy to play on all 24 frets. The nut is beautifully cut, this is rare on Asian guitars. Tuners and tuning stability is like a tele, tune it and it holds for a long time. For me the only downside is the colour, black metallic, I would have preferred surf green or something less metalized. Played together with a clean Fender with mucho reverb and a bit tremolo this is just so beautiful it can be, kick in a distortion pedal and it gets really nasty (in a positive way). Not many of many of these were made (Korea 2001-2002) so if you find one grab it, the retail price was around US $700, but they were later sold for around $200.

Not for sale Look for them on E-bay, I suppose they show up there now and then, but this must be a quite rare guitar as I had trouble finding information on the net. |

I know Goran, they are rare. I've been searching one out for a little while now. They are sweet little baritones and not very well known in the baritone world. Have a lot of creative music fun with it. It sure is nice. |
