My ipod just crashed on me, erasing over 80GB of my record collection with it. Now I have to begin the long process of uploading all my albums back onto my ipod. It's safe to say that the next two months worth of weekends are shot for me.
Just needed to vent to some one! |

Buddy, I feel sorry for you man. I back my iTunes up like carzy. I know it's too late, but you have to keep that stuff in check. I learned that when I got a vundo virus and had to wipe my computer.... Sad times... |

Yeah silver lining is that I now get to restore it from windows back to mac.
How can I back up 80+ gigs of music? I'd need another hard drive... |

Hi Right Foot Boss
If you have a/the Firewire cable - transfer it all via firewire it's a Sheetload quicker than USB2.0.
Firewire is continuous data - where USB runs in burst mode. even though USB 2.0 is 440Mb/s, and firewire is 400Mb/s firewire will always be faster.
My new touch doesn't seem to like connecting on firewire, they might have removed that option in the later iPods. perhaps to reduce the costs & chip count.
But no matter which way you go about it, it's still going to be a bit of a pain in the pod. Just firewire lightens the load.
Good luck - we all feel for your loss.
Regards Dr. Bob

I always do regular back ups. I don't want to lose over 150GB of music & pictures.
I back up everything using a 1TB eSata drive... it's super quick at transfering files compared to USB/FW. |

I have a 500gb hard drive specifically for backing up music, pics, vids etc.... |

Yeah... I have 4 USB2 connected hard drives - total of 2.1 TB. I have my iTunes MP3's backed up on two of the drives so I still have it if one fails.
A 1TB USB drive is about US$140 here which I consider to be cheap for the security it gives.

| amen. So easy and cheap to get tons of backup storage - even good brand-name drives. (I put a 500gb Seagate in a USB/Firewire enclosure probably two years ago for under $200). |

I have 8 copies of my important files among 3 computers including 6 hard drives, 2 USB thumb drives, 1 USB external & 1 1394 external drives.
The thumb drives contains My Documents, websites, drivers, apps, & everything necessary for a quick windows reinstall.. all zipped up & encrypted.
I've used Second Copy for many years. Once you set a few profiles (Copy source dirs to destination dirs) & set a few parameters, you'll be all synced up.

Second Copy supports FTP, writable media, UNCs, scheduling, & is highly configurable & reliable. I actually run it in manual mode which means whenever I share my USB thumb drive between my work & home computers, I sync it up. Finally, I sync a few profiles before bed each night & it only takes a few minutes. I love the program & highly recommend its use. |
