| Can anyone tell me exactly how the modulation bus on the RBF-10, RPH-10 etc works? one post i saw said that the unit allowed for external control over the rate. elsewhere i have seen reference to using the mod bus to create stereo effects with two units. what exactly does it send out/take in? CV IN? |

| If two units are connected over the modulation bus one will automatically become master and the other one will be slave. The different manuals explain how this works with two of the same kind for stereo effects. If you connect different units together like a flanger and a phaser you will have to experiment a bit. I've only played around briefly with this but found it to be quite fun. |

I have yet to run across a fair price on any of these since we started discussing these units. Hopefully I can get my hands on the OD and Phaser some time soon! |

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, and I was wondering if any of you could answer a few questions I have on the microrack series. 1-- What is the best way to mount these units in the rack? I am building a rack specifically for these units, probably with a switching matrix as well. They don't seem to have any mounting points on them. 2-- I was wondering what the best noise suppressor for these units would be? 3-- When all the units are hooked up (about a dozen of them) and all in bypass mode, how much does it affect the signal?
I have just started to collect these units, so unfortunately I guess I am competing with some of you guys. So far I have the RCL-10, RPQ-10,RRV-10,RCE-10,ROD-10,RGE-10,and working on the rest now.
I will post my comments on these units as soon as they arrive, and I have had a play with them, Cheers, Ritchy. |

I think the best way to mount them in a 19" rack is to use a RAD-10 or RAD-50 mounting adapter. There's a locking screw that goes through the adapter and into the bottom of the unit. I bught my RPH-10 and RBF-10 together on a RAD-10 rack shelf. The previous owner taped them in. This was a bad idea and I struggled for a long time to get all the yucky tape glue off the units.
The best noise suppressor I know about is the NS-2. Unfortunately it isn't available in rack format so I've had to use a Rocktron Hush instead. It doesn't come close to the NS-2s abilities though.
No idea how much it they will affect the signal if you connect them all. I've got 7 units so far but haven't tested more than 2 |

Thanks for the reply, I guess i will just have to experiment with them all hooked up and see how it afects overall sound. I have an NS-2, I could probably just stick that in the rack.I am toying with the idea of building a switching matrix, the electronics side isn't too hard, but I'm just trying to work out whether to use relays or fet's as the switching elements. |

You mean a switch matrix where you choose which rack unit to enable and which ones to bypass? That would be very cool. Could anything like this be done using a patch bay like the Behringer ultra patch series?
Does anyone remember the Boss SCC-700? Wasn't that like a switch matrix for compact pedals? I remember drooling over the catalogues wanting one of those but I never new what I did. I really just wanted it because it looked something like starship Enterprise |

| Yep, thats sort of what I have in mind. I do remember the Boss SCC-700. What I am planning is is a programable true bypass setup. I looked at the berringer patch bays as a cheap source of jacks and box. I was basically going to set up relays between each patch, and control the relays with a straight logic control. I planned on only having about 6 patch combinations max, which means I only need 6 foot switches. In very basic terms, the switches will drive a binary encoder which in turn drives a eeprom. The eeprom has each output coresponding to one relay/effect control. The more effects you have the more eeproms you use. This could all be done a lot simpler with a micro controller, but I wanted to keep it as straight logic with no software coding etc. This is all in design stage at the moment, and I think its been done before, but I am trying to do it for next to nothing.I am ratting old modems for relays, keyboards for switches, and anything I can find for eeproms etc. This whole design will also have amp switching capabillites. Sorry for the long speel, but I will keep you posted on how its coming along. |

ritchy rev, please do keep us posted!
bossarea, there *is* a rackmounted noise suppressor -- the NS-50. I think details are in the Boss GEGB vol. 10, along with a few other in the -50 series. I don't know how it 'sounds' vs. a NS-2, but there's a NS-50 on eBay now:

(and in case anyone is wondering, I have no affiliation with the seller of that item.)

This is the number of an ebay auction for an ROD-10 that has all white knobs. I have one of these and the knobs are more rainbow colored ( orange, yellow, blue ) and I wonder if anyone else can check the color scheme's they may have to determine if this could be stock ( The rare white knobbed squirrel, err, llama, oops, I mean ROD-10! ) or if these are replacement knobs, etc. I assumed that this series incorporated multiple colored knobs across the line. |

The last year (possibly the last 2 years) of micro-rack production the knobs were changed from coloured to all white. I think the cover of Boss Pocket Dictionary Vol. 6 shows some units with white knobs. The 3-4 previous Pocket Dictionaries showed the units with coloured knobs.

| all Boss 1/2-rack series effects (both the Micro series and the Pro series) have a mounting screw hole on the bottom of the casing, for mounting to a RAD-10 or RAD-50. FYI, these screws are size M4x12 mm pan head Phillips screws.... |

Tested my Boss RRV-10 (Reverb) yesterday and I was genuinely suprised of the amazing reverbs coming from this old box. Room-reverbs where very good for guitar, you can twek the reverbs a lot. The multi-tap delay was also very, very good. I have never liked digital reverb for guitar, prefering spring-reverbs, but this little box sounds so good. Nothing clinical, itīs wholly and fat. I guess the sound has something to do with that there are just 12 bits. As the prices on these racks are, at the moment, very low I highly recommend anybody to find and test them. |
