Sorry to hear about these harsh occurrences!  I hope that all of your friends and neighbors in the area are doing alright.
And glad to hear that you had no loss of family or property yourself.
Having lived on the West Coast for quite some time, forest fires were a common happening... saw many happen in the Cascade Range of Oregon; less common in the Coast Range.
One popular prophylactic measure was to turn on all available sprinklers in a large perimeter around the flammable buildings, and soak the roof and all shrubberies.
It's never a bad idea to have a backup generator for the water pump and other essentials...
Hope everything works out better soon and I'll have a convo with the Rain Gods this evening

Thanks for all your best wishes & thoughts.
I just arrived home about an hour ago, only to hear that some #$@#*& had started another fire in the Lynbrook area (my hometown) , but further south off the main highway.
Apologies to everyone, I replied to with my generic reply,
You guys were right,
it's just a heap easier to post it here (once).
Sadly I came home, to the news that the number of lives lost, has more than doubled,
since I went off to work this morning.
& is expected to climb even higher.
Police & Emergency teams have still to get into some areas.
I heard that in some places entire towns have been declared a crime scene,
indicating that Arson was definitely on the cards.
People are being let out of those areas, but NOT back in, until investigations have been concluded.
I was told 2 people have been charged so far.
For those that asked, & were concerned, my muso friend from work (Alex) told me that his friend that was missing in the Flowerdale area was located - safe & sound. :-)
All I can really tell you, is that it's just one bad story after another,
all you heard people saying is fugg - fugg - fugg, in disbelief.
What else can you say? Not much........

Looks like the local Lynbrook fire was a small one. (thanks to the big Fellow upstairs).
In some ways, a lot of people are just too shocked to speak, or say anything
And those that do, are all speaking in Hushed & whispered tones.
I believe that there will be & already is, a lot of what is called survivor Guilt, I know It has some medical term.
As of this morning 8:45am I heard that $13.5au Mil, had been collected to help families of the disaster.
Please don't take this as insultive, or the wrong way guys.
But it's really fuggen hard to write this.
And I do understand that everyone wants to hear this from a real person.
But let me tell you, in this case, the papers & media have it pretty much spot on, true & correct.
One thing about Aussies.
Never try to bullshit one, especially in such tragic conditions.
The papers & media are being responsible & respectful.

I'm sorry to hear that it now looks like some bad bastard actually started these fires...... .... those pricks that they caught should be strung up by the balls.... sorry for cussin' but anyone who starts a fire like that is really sick in the head....

| its an absolute tragedy. i remember the bush fires in tassie when i was a kid, the sky turns black, the sun turns red and everything is covered in ash. im very lucky they were never as serious as this one, my heart goes out to everyone affected. i hope they find those f*$%ers, lock them up and throw away the key. |

And any news about NSW?
QLD = Queensland
NSW = New South Wales
These are different & more northern states of Australia.
QLD been more north.
I heard reports that the temperatures are going to climb back up to the 30's, for the end of the week & weekend.
Possibly setting off another round of fires.
I see some rains predicted for tomorrow Wed & temps of around 17degC.
Which will be a welcome relief for everyone but especially for the weary fire fighters.
I also heard that the Australian government will be flying in fire teams from the USA, CANADA, & possibly Europe to help out.

It is snowing here in southern Sweden, I wish you could have some of it!
I really hope both the fires and high temoeratures will dissapear soon! |

Glad to hear you and your family are all safe Dr. Bob. As did most of us, my thoughts went directly to you when I heard the news break. When I checked in yesterday morning after a long night of working there was only Goran's and SP-1's posts. I went to bed before you confirmed your safety.
This past night at work I didn't know if your house might have burned down or even worse. I kept imagining you franticly stockpiling all your gear into a vehicle shouting, "Leave the rest, we can replace it!" 
Seriously, I am glad you are alright. |
