Hi,

I hate for my first post here to be a troubleshooting post, but I haven't been able to find a solution anywhere else.

I bought a used DD-20 the other day but haven't been able to get it to work properly. When I first got it I used a 9V adapter to power it - I plugged it in, and it did power the unit, but the effects didn't work. I made nothing of it because I know sometimes Boss pedals are weird about certain power adapters.

So I put some batteries in it and it worked fine for about 10 minutes, but then the delay started to distort and fizzle out and eventually stopped working.

I've since tried it with a couple of other adapters, and I've gotten it to work with a 1spot, but the delay only lasted for about 10 seconds and I had the same problem above.

And it only works with the 1spot when plugged into its own outlet, and not in a power strip.

The guy I bought it from said he had no problems with it, and he seems trustworthy (he maintained contact throughout and has plenty of pos. references).

Anyone have any guesses about what the problem may be? It was insured through USPS - is it possible that something could have been messed up in shipping? I'd rather fix it than have to go through USPS insurance (if that's the case) but I don't really know anything about pedal electronics. Thanks a lot for any help.

Hello fox
I have a similar problem with my DD-20, the pedal powers up properly, but the actual delay part does not work. Unlike you I haven't been able to get any delay at all, even for 5 minutes, although I tried several adapters ...
I've had no time to look into it these past weeks, but in a few days I'll round up more adapters and see if I can get it to work a little.
Would be funny to find we had the same problem and it would double our chances to find a cure ... I guess ?!

Until then, here's something I noticed on my DD-20 : like I said I get no delay, however in some specific modes I do get, well, something.
For instance the twist mode seems to work ... The dual and pan modes get me one single faint repeat.
(check this topic http://bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5019 for complete info)
Do you have the same symptoms ?

Cheers !

Sounds to me like something in the pedal is drawing excess current...

The manual says it draws 200mA, so it's definitely on the high side of things. Have you tried a genuine Boss PSA adapter?

Hi Laurie.

I did try with a PSA to no avail, but then my problem is probably different
How about you fox ?

As an aside, I always thought that was funny :
DD-20 current consumption = 200mA, PSA maximum current supply = 200mA

Isn't this cutting it a little close ? Obviously there's a margin included in the figures, but well ... Does the DD-20 really use that much ?
Cheers

Hi Guys

This is probably not an issue with your two DD-20's, but.

I have recently seen an RC-20XL, that someone tripped onto.
They probably landed on the front part, where all the controls are.
It did some (explicative) serious damage to the underlying double sided PCB.

The fall-stomp was so violent that it cracked the PCB, right through, in two places.

You might want to see if you have any possible hairline cracks in the PCB.

Regards Dr. Bob

Thanks for the replies.

prosp, I read through your thread and I do seem to have similar symptoms. I took apart my DD-20 and it looks about the same as the one posted. And it doesn't look like there are any cracks anywhere.

Maybe I should just try to sell it cheap to someone who might be able to fix it...
