I just bought the Monte Allums SD-808 mod plus kit, to beef up my SD-1 and boy does that make a huge difference or what?
It basically turns it into a tubescreamer, but with twice the amount of gain.
It also smooths out the raspy highs and more important, after the mod the pedal doesn't suck low end anymore.
The kit comes supplied with a low noise JRC 4558D which is a higher quality chip than the stock (and cheaper) 4558DD.
That allready makes a difference on its own noisewise, so I recommend this to anyone, just replace the chip first.
Plus the use of metal resistors and capacitors really beefs up the sound.
It's great with the gain up full in front of a clean amp for a classic tube amp dirty sound.
It also cleans nice when you turn down your guitar volume.

Did I mention it's the best 22 bucks I ever spend?
