Just wondering... I'm not in the market this month, but this looks strange. eBay #7377117586.

Well, the silver screw isn't original (origanal? No comment) Boss issue. I don't know when the 5 year warranty box started, but I'd guess it doesn't go back to SS MIJ's. Did all SS DS-1's have the bigger font?
Grace and peace,
Steve

I'm going to make a wild-ass guess and suggest that this is a MIT DS-1 with a MIJ base and some miscellaneous "silver" screw shoved in the front.
But then again, I have a poor imagination. :)

I guess its an all genuie DS-1 except for the silver screw. I have compared the picture with my DS-1 (an early MIT version) and the pcb is exactly the same even the stamped "R" on the board. Here is a picture of my DS-1 for comparing:

I think the last Japan and the first Taiwan issues were the same. IMHO only the strange silver screw isnt original. The only thing that makes me a little unsecure is that the serial or batch number of my DS-1 is 074837. So if we are right with our suggestions about the first digit there are a span of five years between these very two DS-1. |

You'll notice that the wires that go to your board go through the PCB. In the older pedals, they just tacked them on to the board on the component side.
Here are the pix he posted of the pedal in question:

So, I'd say 1985 Made in Japan. No silver screw.

Steve

You dont believe me, do you
Ok here are three pics of my DS-1

As I took the picture of the s/n Ive noticed that all my Boss pedals with a s/n sticker in the battery compartment do have a serif type font s/n similiar with Courier or so and not the sans-serif (Arial, Verdana?)font of that MIJ DS-1 above. Dont know if this is important |

Now he's added a post of a question that I'm guessing is a friend of his - or himself.
Q: Does this come with a battery? (By the way, this is a really good deal considering that the Japan model's are pre 1980's) Thanks! Dec-29-05 A: Hello, Yes, I will through in a free battery. And yes, this is a GREAT deal. Thank you.

Lightburst,
Interesting that the S/N doesn't end in 00 either like the original 6 digit S/N's did. Looks like the ones that start with 8 or 9. Hmm. I'll have to take a look at the font on my pedals now to see what they look like.
Grace and peace,
Steve

OK, this auction is making me sick!
There is no logical reason for anyone to bid $160 for this non-silver screw 1985 pedal with a non-original box.
This is the reason why this forum is so useful, so that people can learn how to judge the true collector pieces from the wannabe's.

Its pretty strange to know how to buy at Ebay but not to know how to get usefull informations with the help of from the internet and forums like this BEFORE youre bidding high prices on strange articles.
Here in Germany you can get a MIJ DS-1 exactly like the one in the auction for less than 50$. Ok the thing thats missing is the beautifull wrong silver screw but 160 bucks??? Thats ridiculous! |

By the way, in February my wife wants to buy me a metal screw DS-1 for my birthday. If anyone sees a nice one in that time frame, would you mind dropping me an email? Thanks!

I can put a fake screw in my 1986 MIJ DS-1 and put it in the box for my MIT DS-1. Will you give me $160 for it??
I gotta find SOME humor in all of this. |
