Does anyone know of alternative to using PayPal on eBay? I don't mean accepting cash or money order only, but another company similar to PayPal? Two of the last three times I sold something on eBay PayPal placed a "temporary hold" on the buyer's funds and did not deposit it into my PayPal account until the item had been received and feedback left. I have a 100% feedback rating on eBay with over 50 transactions, and the buyer also had a 100% rating. I don't see the justification for the hold, and when I contacted PayPal about it they sent what looked like a prewritten reply saying it was for buyer/seller protection and with no specific reason. I say bogus. I've always liked and used PayPal but I'm ready for an alternative. Thanks for any suggestions!

There is a website made by disgruntled former paypl folks... something like payplsuks.org... there may be some alternative listed in there. I remember a few years back, there were some alternative escrow sites like bidpay, and others.

Those seem to have gone by the wayside now, and it seems like ebane wants to force you to use their subsidiary, paypl. It seems like they don't want people to use other means of payment that were OK in the past, such as checks and money orders. Though it all seems like monopolistic marketing to me, I guess they want to reap their guaranteed extra percentages...

While I'm not that enthusiastic about the current state of affairs, there really aren't too many alternatives in terms of web auctions.

It's my understanding (from a former Paypal employee) that google has such a service as well. No experience with it though.

Hi T.D.

While I personally don't know this former employee in real life,
I know who you are talking about.
Nudge Nudge - wink wink.
