Just got the BD-2.
Wow, another awesome pedal from Boss. Compared to the OD-3 it is different. The OD-3 seems more compressed and less top end. Od-3 is more like power tube crunch and BD-2 has more gain. |

You have got it there, you listened very well to both of these pedals The SD-1 sits in the middle of those two and has the least of gain of all them. |

I am using the OD-3 for a light overdrive and the BD-2 for a higher gain drive. |

In my opinion OD-3 and BD-2 are the the best Boss overdrives ever, period. As noted BD-2 is a little more ugly at higher settings but at low settings its very transparent and sweet. Strange as it sounds OD-3 is better suited to blues and BD-2 to little more heavy music, in my opinion. The only bad thing with BD-2 is that the tone control has too much treble, you have to turn it nearly counter clock wise or your ears are crumbling. I also have a Stinkfoot modded BD-2, the treble is tamed in this.

Hmmm.... the BD-2 I have does not seem trebly at all. I think it's my amp which is a Roland bluescube 30 2x10 which has a very warm clean channel. THe OD-3 has more mid boost too I think.
Yea, the OD-3 has a better blues tone IMO and the BD-2 gets a good drive sound. It gets kinda close to the MD-2. The lead channel on the bluescube is kinda like a DS-1.

This may be related to the amp it's in front of, like my issues with pedals sounding bright & harsh.
Goran, what kind of amp are you using?
Grace and peace,

I've noticed the same thing. You can easily get the wrong first impression by testing a pedal with the wrong amp. The guitar will probably make a difference as well. |

I am using a Nelsonic 2290 tele copy with P90's. I also have a Squire Fat Telecaster with a lawrence L280Tl bridge and stew-mac golden age humbucker for the neck.
For the Squier Tele the BD-2 sounds better and the OD-3 is harsher (probably the mid boost)

I use different amps, tube and non-tube. But I think in all applications there is too much treble in BD-2, you can tame it by turning the tone-knob to about 1-2. I use mainly singel-coils so that can be the reason for my treble-trouble . But dont missunderstand me: I like BD-2 very, very much. |

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Between the OD3 and the SD1 which I tried side by side, the od3 has a huge boost compared to the SD1 but the SD1 has more gain.
I don't remember the BD2 though since I only played that like 10 years ago. Actually I still know the person who has it and maybe I should buy it... What do you think guys? Buy or no buy?
I'm just a sucker for those old style knobs of boss... |

Gonna have to mod the BD-2. I don't like the splatty decay.
When I compared the SD-1 and OD-3 in the store the OD-3 just had more fuller tone to me. |

| Well, I am selling the BD-2 on ebay. The OD-3 is just better IMO. I may go for the SD-1 or a digitech Bad Monkey |
