Hi all
Got myself a DS-1 SS with the early 052-286C PCB .. wuhuu
Unfortunatly it doesn't work .. not so much wuhuu
No sound, no light - but I can feel the battery getting warm so I suspect some kind of shortage ??
Any suggestions on how to go about checking it out?
Cheers

Warm battery almost certainly means a short circuit somewhere...
Measure across D1 and you will probably find a short circuit.
Assuming you did find a short circuit, there are really only a few things that can be causing it - D1 is dead (my money is on this), C23 is dead, the IC is dead, or there is a mechanical short somewhere (solder dag, wires shorting, etc).
If it was on my bench I'd do the following initial steps: 1) Close visual inspection of all wiring and all tracks on the board. 2) Remove D1 and see if the fault goes away (likely). 3) Remove C23 and see if the fault goes away. 4) Remove the IC and see if the short remains.
Let us know...

Hi Vim Fuego
Like Laurie; Sounds like it was belted with a reversed polarity power pack. (and possibly rev. & over volts).
I'll put my money on D1 being shorted.
If D1 went-is open circuit, Then it would have allowed the rev. voltage to get to the Op-Amp & Capacitor. Then I'll place my money on the Op-Amp IC
Remember: Dr. Bob's Theorem Number 2506. Op-Amps HATE Reversed VOLTAGES... http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4599
BTW - depending on how long you had the battery connected to the shorted pedal, It's probably best to consider it flat. Or at least test it before doing a gig with in in some pedal.
Good Luck Regards Dr. Bob

I guess my 20$ DS-1, SS, serial 8800, clear switch, momentary LED, 052-286C PCB wasn't a bad deal after all

It's always a great thing to bring a dead pedal to life again, congrats on that! |

| Very nice! 8800 is late (albeit only a month or so) for both those early features (switch and LED) to still be on the pedal. An SS DS-1 still eludes me... |

I should be honest and say that Laurie and Dr. Bob fixed it !
And yes - it sounds amazing - very transparent the pots could do with a bit of cleaning but that I can take care of myself
