Hello all,
Is it just me or does this look suspiciously like a certain brand of pedal we all know and love:

Picked up this guy today, I found it so amusingly familiar I had to have it.
http://www.beta-aivin.com/ - Besides some amusing engrish their web site offers a number of pedals and even a "GUITAR AMPLIFIEF".
Has anyone else run into one of these? According to their web site they were at NAMM 2009 and Musikmesse Frankfurt 2009, I wonder what the Boss people thought.
I'll need one of the circuitheads to chime in on any circuit similarities, that stuff is way over my head.

Just another in the ever-improving slew of imitators. Part of Boss's appeal is the case design - refreshingly original.
How much are these things? How robust is the case? |

Hi Stengah2010
Where in Oz did you buy this? I would love to use the case for a current project of mine. And can I ask how much you paid for it?
Or Ollie could use it for his CE-2 Clock pedal case.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Excellent photos Stengah2010.
Do you have a CE-5 to compare the CE-100?
It looks ok by me but I dislike ripooffs.. it does however sport a nice swoop downward on the treadle. |

verivorax: I got it for AU$60 from Cash Converters, as you can see from the photos its absolutely minty brand new. A quick search on eBay shows BINs of AU$49, US$59 and US$89 minus shipping so looks like I got a decent deal.
The case is all metal and weighs the same as a Boss pedal, dare I say it feels just as robust and well made. The jacks and pots aren't PCB mounted just like a Boss pedal so thats a plus, I can't vouch for the quality of the components but mechanically its sound.
Dr. Bob: Hey Dr. Bob, I got it from Cash Converters in Parkdale, I visit that store quite often since its only 5 mins from my work. It would certainly make a nice case for a project, its at least 1000 times nicer than a flimsy Behringer pedal.
DeFrag: Thanks DeFrag, I love shooting pics of pedals. Yes I have both analogue and digital versions of the CE-5 so the next step is to do a full A/B/C comparison between all 3. One thing I did notice after a quick play through the Beta was the Filter controls seem to act as overall bass/treble controls; I haven't plugged in a CE-5 for a while but I seem to remember Filter on the CE-5 changing the frequency of the signal the chorus acts upon as opposed to being an actual eq control. I'll know more after comparing them.

hello guys. this makes me remember the gtx od100 which i posted about last year. to recap, beta aivin makes them and sells them under the brands GTX, Boston engineering, harley benton. these pedals really look good, are as strong as boss' case and the electronics are IMO very good. however, its the sound of the od100 that didnt quite live up. it sounded like a boss HM-2 heavy metal( yup more distortion than a ds-1) and i was looking for a lower gain od like the boss SD-1 and it didn't have it. i havent tested the other pedals but i'm always thinking about getting the beta aivin flanger for occasional use. this chorus might also be great as a backup. btw, a lot of guitar players swear the hm100 is a mt-2 clone.

Beta Aivin seems to be the "in-house" brand name for Elder Audio Manufactory, a Chinese company specializing in building cheap stuff for store chains etc. "Boston Engineering" has already been mentioned, and Thomann in Germany has these under the "Harley Benton" brand name.

| And they are only 33 in thomann! If you like the CH-1 knock off they have it for 25 . That's crazy! Costs like a Behringer but has a good metal case instead of those made of plastic. |
