Warwick.hoy: beautiful Thumb!!! I love the ovangkol on it. I've seen some with no grain at all.. and some, like yours, with some nice streaky grain.
Those nuts (called "Adjust-a-nut II" - the first version was the brass nut with the slot-head screws) are famous for breaking - espsecially on 5-strings. There's a NEW version of the Adjust-a-nut (III), inclided on all new Warwicks since 2007 I think. The version III doesn't have those little breakable tabs featured on the II. You can ask your local warwick dealer to order one for you - they should only be about $15..
EDIT.. I just re-read your post in which you said you'd already replaced the nut - so maybe disregard the above!!

After having the bone nut in for at over a month now, I much prefer it over the JAN II. The JAN III or the Brass JAN III would have been cool, but I was in a pinch for a gig (got it in and out with time to spare).
I think the bone nut looks really classy and I detect no difference in the sound. I try to keep up on and knowledgeable about gear, but I hardly tinker. I never made an adjustment on the JAN II.
I know what you mean about the grain. Mine seems to have become a little more pronounce over the years. I could be perceiving it that way, but it has developed a nice patina after ten years of use. |

I love that bass so much. People really do have a love hate relationship with them. For me it just has that sound. The right amount of burp and just a touch of zing. It records really well too.

It is a heavy SOB, but the right strap helps that out a lot I currently use a Dimarzio elastic strap, but previously had a 4 inch homemade job that worked will. I like the Dimarzio,...very comfy.
People complain about neck dive, which is legit, but it never goes any further than parallel with the floor. No complaints from me.
Laurie,...I tried to find a picture of the guitar in you are talking about (the brother). I lurked your pedal page and glanced through the first few pages of this thread. Is it a Framus guitar or like a 4 string Thumb Bass?

Laurie, The last two digits of the SN will tell you the year of manufacture.
ex: D-XXXXXX-98. I believe the letter stands for the month (April) and 98 = 1998.
Can't wait for a pic....I love me some thumb basses.
Thought I mention that the neck on the 4 strings are a little to baseball bat compared to the 5 stringers. |

Those Warwicks can't be too bad if Jack Bruce plays them..  ... only joshing with ya guys.... Jacks one of my favourite bass players and he gets a great sound out of his fretless 4 string..
"I love that bass so much. People really do have a love hate relationship with them. For me it just has that sound. The right amount of burp and just a touch of zing.".... gotta love how the low end brothers describe their sound...... very nice bass guitars BTW........

It's the Warwick Jack Bruce CRB (Cream Reunion Bass). Super Sexy. My second bass was a lawsuit EB-3. Man if I still had that thing today.

I don't feel good playing Warwick (I tried several Warwick), but they are BEAUTIFULL and the SOUND is great.
