Im not sure but within many months,i realized the prices of discountinued Boss pedals going down in price, anyone with me? The real question is are these vintage and 'rare'ones suppose to go higher in value in time?or maybe just wont because of lots of 'newer competition' from other pedal makers? |

Yeah, I track the prices of most discontinued Boss pedals on OZ ebay (so I know how to price them if I decide to sell ) and there seems to be an overall slump in the "market" at the moment. You still see some ridiculous sales for mint pedals, like AUD$190+ (US$160) for DF-2s and FT-2s, the odd DM2s breaking the AUD$400 barrier, and CE-1s approaching AUD$500, but overall it seems that most pedals are selling for less than they did several months ago. I've seen MIB EH-2s and TW-1s sell for AUD$60 when they were pulling AUD$150 not long ago. Good for the buyer, bad for the seller.
The value on any of these "collectable" Boss pedals is simply what people are going to pay at the time. There's no rule that they should rise in value - that's just often the case since over time more units get lost/broken and so the supply is reduced. When I first started getting into effects about 3 years ago DM-2s were about AUD$250 and CE-1s $300-330. They're usually about $100 more today. But as you pointed out, some other manufacturer may release eg a killer vibrato which may stop people lusting after the VB-2, which would mean less demand for the existing units and so the price should come down. That said, there seems to be a market from some effects no matter what else is released. For eg, the value of original 60s fuzz faces don't seem to have suffered from the endless supply of boutique clones on the market. The same goes for original late 70s TS808s, the SG-1 (cf Gyatone's SV-2), and the CE-1 (cf Retro-Sonic's Clone). |
