Hey Skyguy -
I VERY STRONGLY SUGGEST not using IRF's.
I know that Rat Shack stocks them, but they are a real PITA to work with, at least in Boss pedals, IMO.
The IRF's are just too tall and bulky, even if you clip off the heat sink. You typically still have to bend them to get them to fit, and it really puts a lot of stress on the PCB. You also have to insulate them thoroughly so that the remaining heat sink portion doesn't contact an adjacent component (like the other IRF!).
I ruined three of them last night, trying to cut off the heat sinks and bend the leads for max clearance.
The 2N7000's are the way to go, IMO. Cheap and small, and they fit just about anywhere. If they are good enough for the Zendrive and the OCD, they must be good!
