I tried searching for this topic but had trouble finding it (six pages of results).

I was wondering if there was something unlucky about the number 4. Roland seems to skip the number 4 in all of their pedal series. The only pedal numbered 4 was the PQ-4 which didn't sell very well.

Oddly enough, Palm, Inc. (now known as PalmOne) also skips the number 4 in each series of their PDAs that they put out.

One of the software manufacturers that I have bought from skipped the number 13 in their version numbers, which I understand, but 4?

4 is regarded as unlucky in Japan. 13 is the western equivalent.

I've seen a couple of high buildings missing floor 13. Don't know if builders in Japan skips level 4 as well.

the number 4 is indeed considered unlucky in Japan. in "the Boss book," two Roland/Boss employees admit as much, I think while they were discussing the PQ-4. it's too bad that the PQ-4 sold so poorly (despite being a great pedal, IMHO), reinforcing the superstition....

PalmOne changed their name back to Palm, who would have thought? Maybe they are skipping the 4 in their series for the same reason, even if they are a U.S.-based company.
