i was just wondering if anyone here has one of these?

i have just acquired one on ebay for a bargain price... and i mean bargain!!!
it cost 6.15! (approx. $10).

it looks like i benefited from a poorly organised ebay listing (lack of info, spelling mistake):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=320378969239

it arrived today...

it was a bit grubby looking so i spent 2 or 3 minutes giving it a good clean and it scrubbed up really well; there is one fairly deep scratch on top and a few paint chips on the side edges - all in all, not too bad for something 20+ years old.

the even better news is that it works perfectly and sounds great.

it's obviously good for general tone shaping - it can make things sound 'better' (more refined) or with certain settings it can sound quite lo-fi - but it's also really good if you manipulate the frequency controls in real time, almost playing it like an instrument on pre-recorded tracks.

i've only had a quick play around with it today with my electric guitar, but i'd imagine it could have lots of uses.

an interesting design feature is that the preamp is always active, and the bypass switch (or optional footswitch) operates the EQ section... it would probably work well as a preamp/DI for electro-acoustic instruments with a footswitchable 'solo boost/EQ' for playing live.

it's definitely a good acquisition!

Bargain - A couple of years ago, getting any microrack unit for around 20ish was fairly easy. In recent years, the delay ones have shot up to, on average 40/50+ (on eBay, anyway), with all the others ranging from 25 up, so under a tenner is fantastic.

Bargain: definitely!

i've noticed that with the other microracks too... i've even seen some of them sell for nearer 100!!!
i bought a few for 15 each not that long ago.

i think with this particular unit i was just lucky... the ebay listing said 'sold as is' with no other info re: condition or even what it is... so to some that would give the impression that it doesn't work.

i took a gamble that it was maybe being sold untested, or by someone who genuinely didn't know what it was (there were no other musical items in their feedback for recent sales/purchases)... but i mean, 6.15 isn't much of a gamble really!!!

Lucky! Prices have definitely climbed for these things in the last couple of years. I like the microracks and find them very useful.

thanks!

i like the microracks too... this is the fourth one i've had and they've all been either very good or excellent. i'd like to try the RRV-10 (Reverb) and the RPS-10 (Pitch Shifter/Delay) at some point.

I have 6-7 of them and I can highly recommend RRV-10, reverb, and the delays.
I suppose prices will raise more and more for these, they where not cheap when new either.
The RPQ-10 is soooo nice with all the LEDs

the lights are pretty!

i do usually keep an eye on ebay for microracks and other old rack effects...

i don't know how much they were to buy new, but the used prices are more than reasonable... you can pretty much pick any of them up for less than the equivalent pedal.

what do you think of the Reverb? is there anything which you could compare it to (to give me a frame of reference)?

at the moment i have a high-end TC Electronics reverb, an old, analogue DOD Stereo Reverb pedal and a few plugins.

RV-2 without doubt, with more control of the parameters and some extra sounds.
