I've been thinking about getting the AC-3 for awhile now but have heard many missed reviews about it. I've tried it at GC but they have all their pedals hooked up to each other and to a mini P.A so i don't know if the sound from that is entirely credible (i've noticed every pedal i try at Guitar Center always sounds different at home/live then it did there). The reviews i've read gives me an impression that this pedal gives more of a super-clean sound than an acoustic one... if that's true then i'd rather not purchase this because my Ibanez can split it's pick-up making a super-clean sound already. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks

The AC-3 really only "does it's job" if you DI it into a PA and listen to it through the PA speakers. Listening to it through a guitar amp will just give you a "super clean" sound (perhaps like the one you describe).

To test it, take it to the PA room of the music store and plug the "line out" into a PA and have a listen. If they won't let you do that, then I'd suggest finding another store that will...

The Acoustic simulator, in my experience, enhances some higher frequencies to make it sound acoustic. With humbuckers it just sounds a bit brighter.

Someone said on the forum that he could do the same with his EQ-pedal. I guess that the difference could be IF the Acoustic simulator switch enhancement frequencies depending on played frequency, like a note-by-note-changing EQ.

This is what the AC-3 does with COSM technology. But you won't hear it to full effect through a guitar amp...
