As of 1st June, they have changed the rules here in Oz (Australia)
You MUST & can only pay with paypal, unless you pay cash on pickup. They have basically monopolized the way you can buy/sell.
All payments for advertising (everything) MUST also go thu. paypal. and guess who owns who?????
Australia is the test site to see how sellers & buyers react.
To offset negative reaction, (Baha!?) they are offering substantial, but as of yet untested, buyer protection.
There are a lot of Urinated & -ed off users out here.
Hence a lot of users are moving to other less used auction sites, and back to the trading post type papers & as Franzoni calls them, "The Small Ads".
Regards Dr. Bob

Dr. Bob, you mean that a 6-pack of Foster's isn't considered legal currency in Oz?
but seriously, that kind of enforced monopoly really sucks. (what's next, eBay/Paypal charges a fee of 50% of the final price to hold the seller's hand as they deliver it to you?) I predict a huge backlash, for transactions within Australia at least. |

| To me it just means its time for one of the huge internet entities to step up and be what eBay used to be. Amazon, Yahoo, MSN, or Google should all consider opening up auction sites. It has to be one of them, because they are about the only ones who can seriously compete against the corporate giant that is eBay.... |

| FWIW, Yahoo used to have an auction site (http://auctions.yahoo.com/)... it got crushed by eBay, IIRC. |

Hey Pawnshop_trash, yeah we often barter with Fosters, but only with the tourists. That stuff is only export quality! We keep the good beer to ourselves!!!

I love it! Sorry to hijack the thread!
Coopers is a nice drop but can be a bit heavy for some as it's deliberately not as highly refined. Makes for a great meal replacement! I prefer the Coopers pale ale.
Laurie, I thought all Queenslanders only drank Gold!?!
Me, I like a Crown lager or something from Cascade or Boags.

Swan's and Cooper's are the only beers from Oz I have had besides Fosters. I enjoy a full bodied brew. |

VICTORIA BITTER
I wear the shirt my sister gave me..
but I've neither been to OZ nor tried the beer..
You think with all the import beer here I'd be able to find a 6-pack at least..
What I love to drink is Trinidadian Carib beer (I've heard it's better off the smaller islands, but they don't export).. |

He he, VB (Victoria Bitter) was a staple while I was at University(college)!!!
Guess I drank enough of it to last a life time and my kidney decided it wanted something different!
Since we are meant to be talking about ebay. I came across a guy who wanted to sell me sometime when I sent him a question. The advertised BIN price was $450 but when I asked if he could do better for pick up and cash without going through ebay he said best he could do was $450 and when I said I might as well go through ebay for the buyer protection he said it was cost me $470 even though the BIN price was only $450 and I was going to pay cash on pick up!?!?!?
Surely this is against an ebay policy or something?
Any thoughts?
