Hi everyone! My first post here
I´ve had a dm-2 for about 20 years now(bought it second hand) and ive never come across another one to compare the sound of it . After finding this forum and reading all the post i´ve found about this pedal. Ive realized that maybe my pedal was tempered by the original owner:
Ive always noticed a strange noise coming out of it ,specially when the knobs are at max. some kind of electronic "click" ( I wouldnt call it "distortion").
Could anyone help on which pots should be trimmed?? . My electrical aknowledge is minimum.
Anyway, even with that little problem, my dm-2 hasnt left my pedalboard since 1986.
Any help will be greatlt appreciatted.

Hmmm... my experience is that the clock noise is not audible when the trimpots are propertly set. If you can hear it, someone has certainly "adjusted" the Clock trimmer and it should be adjusted back the factory seting.

Funny thing how, you get used to certain sounds and take them for granted and not being able to a/b it with any other. You end up thinking that what you have is the "norm".
I remember back in the 80´s when i bought a few of the now "collectible" pedals when absolutely no one wanted to even get closed to them .
I remember specially a good deal I got from a guy who "got rid of that junk in the closet" for about $75. The lot consisted in a mxr 6 band eq, and block phase 90 and a big muff....
good ol times!!!! |

No one's been anywhere near the inside of my DM 2 except me, and that was just for a quick peek. The pots are exactly where they should be.
It's not really clock noise as such, but that compressed knocking thing when totally maxed - i.e. on the verge of feedback is definitely normal.

Oh, OK. Near the edge of feedback you can get some pretty interesting noises out of the thing 
Still, if it was me, I'd do the trim adjustment on it - probably more because I'm interested in checking this stuff than for any other reason  |

I would love to check the trims myself but i dont have the adknwoledge meither the tools and I dont know anyone who could do it.
Any suggestions??. I wont mind send it to anyone willing to help.

From what you describe, there really isn't anything wrong with it. If you're still worried (I fully understand OCD like behaviour related to DM 2's) have a quick peek inside to make sure the tiny dob of green goo they put on them in the factory to mark their position hasn't been disturbed. If it hasn't, the trimpots are set from the factory and are fine.
But seriously, if it sounds great, it hasn't been touched. The ones that have been messed with internally to achieve longer delay time usually sound like s***t. |
