I finished building and setting up my first bass on the weekend and have had a cool time playing it.
I have found I can have just as much fun playing a bass as my guitars. Playing chords, scales and arpeggios plus bending notes is lots of fun and much more exciting than normal bass plunk, plunk is. I was amazed how quickly I felt at home playing it as the fret spacings and neck length feel huge compared to a Strat. I will get some pics taken and posted soon.
The specs are: Northern Ash Telecaster guitar body, 34" scale Hard Maple neck with 12" radius Purple Heart fingerboard and brass nut, Allparts Fender style vintage tuners, Allparts bridge which is way better than a standard pressed Fender one. Genuine Fender split P bass pickup and controls that I bought second hand off our local auction site. The body, neck, nut, and fingerboard plus control plate I made myself. Also pictured my Strat built out of the same piece of Ash.

That's Awesome One-Way.
You are the Man...

All up, how long did the bass take you to build?

I always loved that Strat. that you built a year or so back.
I wish you lived closer than N.Z., I would beg you to be my new Guitar Tech.
Just wished you didn't sell MY that OD-1, you had last year.

Regards Dr. Bob

Fits nice with your strat, you don't see too many tele basses.

On a sidenote, I play mostly bass, but I use chords, bending and vibrato etc. all the time.
It really spices up your playing, and people really notice this on live gigs.
Actually, the only time I'm not allowed to fly all over the neck, is during a guitar solo, cause it confuses the hell out of my brother who plays the lead guitar, haha

Anyway, have fun

I dont really keep track of the time I spend but it did take a while as I did a bit after work and in weekends and sneak in some time at school. Great having access to all metal and wood working machines. When you make all the bits as well like the hotrod truss rod it is very time consuming but the end result is worthwhile.
I made up a wooden mounting plate for my "Super cheap" car polisher so I could mount it on its side in my vice. It worked well for buffing and polishing the lacquer finish.
Did Fender ever make a bass with a Telecaster guitar body?

I'm not sure Fender ever did, but there is a company called Bach which make pretty solid budget guitars, who have Telebasses.
