It's fairly common knowledge that the CE-2 was still in production until the late 80's (despite what the Boss book says) but this seems strange considering that the CE-3 was released in 1982. So it seems that for around five years or so, Boss had two 'CE' choruses in their product range at the same time which is really wierd.
I've been trying to figure out why they would have done this, as having two very similar chorus effects on the market competing against each other is a strange way to run a business. Also, why they seem to deny the fact that the CE-2 was in production for a lot longer than they claim seems strange too.
Any theories? |

That is a good question. I'm not sure why they have the CE-5 and the CH-1 for sale at the same time now either. Are they that different? I've never compared them myself.
Did the CE-3 have a drastically different sound than the CE-2? |

Hi StratoSphere & Guys
The real reason is, So that there would be more of them, for us to collect in the future....
Don't complain too loud, all the CE-2's may disappear, & I won't be able to get to my secret goal of owning 10 of them.
Shhhh ... And don't tell anyone my secret. |

what were Boss/Roland's suggested retail prices for each pedal? maybe the CE-3 had a higher MSRP, and that was the reason for keeping both ("pay just $XX more for a stereo chorus!"), at least as long as the CE-2 continued to sell.
incidentally, the OD-1 and SD-1 (close to the same pedal, function-wise) were also in production simultaneously for a relatively long time in the 1980s. |

| But it's the same with the Delays.. 3 and 6.. They have some different things and it's the same with the CE.. the 3 had the stereo mode.. But I know that the differences between the delays are faaaaaar larger than the CE.. But it's still 2 DD at the same time.. |

I would say that there is a significant tone difference between the CE-2 and CE-3.....
Though the whole thing sounds strange...
