| if it came in that kind of box I'm willing to bet it's Taiwan. I have an MIJ CS-3 w/box that I got for Buy It Now for $50 a while back and the box didn't look anything like that one, not that it couldnt have been changed with a newer one's box. |

This bring up a couple of questions... when did MIT CS-3 (did they EVER go to the smaller AC adapter socket ... when did boss drop the 5 year warranty logo
I couldn't see a CE label on the box, which is on my 1997 First issued TR-2 pedal ....
I guess the only way to know for sure is to get the serial number and mfg data from the seller .... |

| The boxes used to have "Roland Japan, "Made in Japan" or "Made in Taiwan" written on the side. Later the colouring of the box changed too. Where the sides used to be coloured and the ends white, the sides became white and the ends coloured. |

Sorry I forgot to check this part of the forum for responses yesterday.
The MIJ CS-3 box is a darker blue and that box is more cardboard like and doesnt have that plastic-ish coating over it like the Taiwan boxes do. Also the Taiwan boxes usually have that Guaranteed for 5 Years sticker that Boss started putting on their boxes, sometime after the switch to Taiwan??? anyone actually know when they started using those stickers? And yeah lots of the Japanese boxes do say "Roland Japan" or "Made in Japan" on them. The 5 Year sticker is usually the dead giveaway though. Also that black outline box that says "PSA Adapter Only" or whatever, since most of the older MIJ pedals were the ACA Adapter. |

| this could be the 2nd Generation CS-3 though with the Black Made in Taiwan label, it's possible those still had the protruding A/C Adapter Sockets? I've owned all 3 versions of the CS-3, but sold all but my MIJ one. Not because I think it really sounds much better than the other two pieces of crap, but for collectability. Now in retrospect I wish I kept the crappy ones so I could try to mod them to eliminate that awful hiss. I'm a CS-2 man all the way despite the fact it becomes so loud and hissy when followed by a distortion. It still sounds great clean. It's by far the best out of the three though, my CS-1 is alright but not really my style, but I can see where it would shine for some country pickin' I might right a full indepth report on Boss Compressor/Sustainers at a later date. |

| I have several Japan boxes with the 5 year sticker. Not sure when they started using them but my July -84 HM-2 has one. |
