| Those were on eBay before, but I think the location was Taiwan, now they say Indonesia, so I say "Buyer Beware!", just because I have heard some bad stories about some buyers and some sellers in those areas, but then again bad buyers and sellers are everywhere. It is an interesting idea though, but I just wonder if the tube gets enough ventilation to not overheat, as they added some ventilation holes. Also wondering how much the pedal or tube heats up and, most importantly, how it sounds. And it just seems like a potential problem putting the tube right under the "stomp" part of the stomp box, but these are just my thoughts and opinions... |

From what I remember, the switch has been relocated, so no dangers of smashing the tube. Although I can't get on ebay at work, so i can't check if this is one of those instances.
They've been well recieved on Harmony-Central, and providing it is the real seller, it is legit. His web site is eastern as well, so the location is right. |

The reasno there's so few tube pedals around is that they need high voltage to operate properly and that usually means AC connection and an internal transformer. It is possible to run the valve "cold" which means running it at low voltages. It will work but it will normally sound rather crap so it's not commonly done. How these guys have modified the pedal I don't know but I suspect it's either running cold or it's not in the signal path at all.
Vox released a line of tube pedal about a year or two ago. They claim they're not running the valve cold but they're also running of a battery or DC supply. Their sound samples are just great but I don't really believe the suond comes from the tube until I see it for myself. |
